I had a German Shepard as a child and she was by far the best dog we ever had. But to google German shepherds she was nothing like the characteristics listed. She was terrified of next doors cat. Think nobody told her she was a German Shepard. Had a collie who ticked every collie box and then some. What's your dog breed? Are they anything like you expected them to be?

Mines an American Akita and the descriptions could have been written about him.

He's basically a cat/dog hybrid, we had to work really hard to win him over, he's an absolute arsehole but also the sweetest thing ever, does what you ask him to but makes it clear if he doesn't want to be doing it. Bonded to us, socially dominant over every one else. Natural guard dog and only barks when he needs to. Very vocal with howls and huffs and puffs/grumbles.

Two greyhounds here. They're pretty true to type: sofa hogging, affection sponges, with crap recall unless you have a pocket full of hot dogs. They sleep all day unless you're in the kitchen, where they stand in the middle of the room perpetually in the bloody way staring at the floor waiting for you to drop something. They're ace.

My spaniel is typical of the breed, loves walks, getting filthy and food. Strangely she is bird friendly though Grin
My Boston terrier has the lovely nature they are known for but is more like a cat than a dog, I’ve never known a dog sleep so much!

Irish terriers

Mine missed the bit about terrier in their handbooks. They are not in the least prey oriented, have no kill instinct and have a healthy fear of cats.

They are a pair of faithful and devoted devas. Whose world falls apart if they cannot supervise my every move.

They generally get on with all other dogs, one is a feisty little monkey who loves a good scrap if she can find a willing partner, the other is generally unreactive unless she has to defend herself- I have witnessed this once and she was quite effective.

Collie cross boy-tries to herd cars moving at 30mph
Shihtzu girl-small dog BIG attitude!! It's all on her terms-will only eat if you stand by telling her what a good girl she is. Refuses to get her royal paws wet if it's raining 😂

Basset Hound here. Mostly matches a basset description as she is stubborn and will lie down on walks refusing to move. Also true to breed with friendliness and being relaxed.

However she isn't lazy like most people think they are, she'll run for hours. Very true to breed with loving sniffing and following scents though.

I have 2 working cockers. The 3.5 year old is a great family dog. Adores kids, takes herself off to her crate if she has had enough. And excellent companion for ds who has asd.

She loves to chase birds and squirrels if we are out walking. But if she actually gets close she runs away with her tail between her legs and comes back. Although 99% of the time she gets nowhere near. She also has a terrible sense of smell. Dp tried giving her some chicken the other day and she didnt realise until he, literally, put it on the end of her nose.

She also is more of a lap dog, than needing a few long walks a day. One decent walk with some off lead team is more than enough and if you cant walk her for some reason, she is quite happy. Though we do play games with her, so she is mentally stimulated. She would much rather stay in, if it's raining. Not a huge fan of water either.

The other working cockers was a rescue and only 8 weeks, we have only had her a week or so. She is very cheeky and very very brave....to brave. Also thinks she is a cat. Likes to hide and jump out at you or climb up your clothing and sit in your shoulder. Wether she becomes more working cocker, is yet to be known.

I have a staffy. She's pretty typical. Loves people, very cuddly. She's a rescue, and she has improved (slightly) since we've had her, but she does not like/understand other dogs and is quite reactive.

She has an amazing nose, which I don't remember from previous staffies we've had. Her favourite game is playing hide and seek to sniff out a toy (which she then chews to pieces).
