How to stop dog licking sudocrem off her leg?

Our greyhound scraped her back leg last week. We put some of the blue antiseptic spray on, and took her to the vet yesterday to be certain that it wasn't something more serious than a scrape (we've only had her 6 months so don't have a lot of experience). Vet also has a greyhound, and confirms that the leg issue is just a scrape. She suggests sudocrem to help it heal. But Ddog keeps licking it off, and now the area is getting redder and redder rather than better. Not sure whether to leave the cream off or persevere - any thoughts welcome!

The cone of shame for a couple of days to give the cream start to work. Then remove both the cream and cone and see how she gets on. Maybe?

Hmm, hadn't thought about the cone, that's a good idea. She's now been sick, probably because she's ingested too much sudocrem! The leg is healing quite well though, so I might just leave it as it is with no cream. Thanks for the suggestion!

Could you put a bandage around it so she can't get to it?

We had a button up recovery sleeve for our dog when he had a growth removed from his leg. Worked fantastically.

If you don’t like the cones you can get rubber rings that you inflate and put on
That way you don’t get your legs stabbed to pieces by the cone

Try salt water instead of sudocrem. Boil the water, stir in a tablespoon of salt and let it cool. When it's lukewarm use some cotton pads to swab over the scrape.

You can try bandaging with vetwrap for a couple of days so that the id a physical barrier but in all fairness I'd just leave it clean and open now to heal. Dog saliva is healing, it's the over licking that's the problem.

Our dog has some skin issues and will bite himself red raw at times. We now use this stuff, it’s amazing and heals really quick. And it’s the only ointment he won’t lick off.
