Dog ins - is this average?

Just wondering if this is pretty standard before shopping around and wasting my time considering he is knocking on. Although my grans chihuahua lived until 17

My cat ins went from a tenner to £78 a month when she was 12. I’d claimed £2k for a serious illness. They want your money when your pet is young but it gets really expensive to insure them each year over 10 years of age. I hadn’t claimed in a full year between age 11 and 12 and it still went up £20 a month in the premiums compared with the previous year. I asked why and they say there was an increased likelihood of illness as they get older.

What region are you in? My dog insurance went from £48 to £18/month when I moved out of London!

I've done a comparison and I can get it soooo much cheaper so going to switch. The cheapest I can get is £8 but it doesn't cover much so will go for a mid range at about £30.

If no pre-existing conditions, it sounds worth switching.

However, which insurer are you looking at switching to? Some have a poor reputation for paying out (eg Animal Friends, E&L) whereas some are much better (eg PetPlan)

I pay about £30 on my ten year old and made quite a big claim last year.

Petplan are pretty stable & vets/specialists usually happy to claim direct.

Although you've not claimed for anything has dog seen the vet for anything other than vaccinations as what may seem minor can end up as major pre-existing condition & they group it so my dog had bloody dire rear, all bowel conditions excluded.

Bought by Many seem popular & do pay out but are new so how will be in years to come is bit of a gamble. Fewer companies take on dogs over 8/9 on a lifetime policy.
