How can I pad the edge of plastic buster collar?

When the dog turns round to try and get to the sore, the lip of the collar is catching on it.
I tried covering in thick large cotton wool pads stuck down with cellotape but it’s not working.
Any other ideas please?

How about that double sided sticky pad tape.
That’s quite padded if you only take one side of the sticky off.

You can buy inflatable collars. Much more comfy.

Thank you both for the replies. We do have an inflatable collar but it’s not stopping him from getting to his tail.

Please may you give me a bit more information about these adhesive things? I don’t know what you mean.

Sounds mad but I saw a similar post on another forum and people suggested using a sanitary pad.

It’s like this. So slightly padded if you just remove one of the sticky sides.

Yes, please go up a size on the collar, asap, so no more damage is done.

Stronger tape, so cotton wool and duct tape. You can actually get plastics cone collars that have finished edges - like this pic

How about something meant to insulate a pipe?

When our cat had a big infected wound on her side she had a soft collar. I've checked and they do them for dogs here 4.99 and next day delivery.

Apologies; when I wrote the original post in a hurry and early-ish this morning it wasn't my best .

Ddog isn't regularly turning round and trying to get to the sore. It was the Vet, when we saw her yesterday, who suggested that when he turned round (which he did while she was cleaning the wound) he might well be knocking the sore with the collar's edge and it was she who suggested that we try and pad out the edge with something. She told me that it was the correct size.

I'm trying the sanitary pads but the cellotape holding them on is an issue again.

Umm how can it be the correct size if the dog can damage the wound with it? Good luck in getting anything to stay on the collar long term.

I asked her as soon as I arrived if the collar was the right size and she said yes; I was asking as I was concerned that maybe it was too small/tight and therefore not much air getting to the dog's ears. The last thing I want if for him to get an ear infection too. It was to that question that she said the collar was the right size.

I had the same problem. I used a long piece of Elasto plast tape that you are supposed to cut up for plasters. Wide enough to wrap around and soft enough not to rub. It worked pretty well for my Lab xx
