We seem to have the perfect dog on a home visit. Calm, relaxed, quiet all night, clean, non shredding, friendly to people and other dogs. Only drawback is no recall whatsoever and she is enormous! But I'm having a little wobble about keeping her as it's our first dog (as adults that is). Does everyone go through this??

How old is she? With a young dog, recall should be easier to fix.

fruitpastille · 27/10/2019 11:49

18 months. Lurcher so I know recall can be an issue!

I think a wobble is normal - I had one after we got our most recent puppy. If you are prepared to work on recall, and to get a good trainer to help you, you should be okay. I'm not a lurcher expert, though!

I think my wobble is about her size to be honest!

Behold op. A rehabilitated poacher's ddog. Recall perfect. Loves my dc and dcats!

My joey is huge for a greyhound but the most placid laid back dog. Love him to bits

Aw lurchers are amazing, we rescued one from a council estate being kept in a kennel. I was desperate to keep her as she was so gentle and cuddly but we had already promised her to a lady who lost her greyhound.

If she is the perfect dog then work on recall and enjoy her! Find a secure dog field she can sprint around in!

I have been so converted to Lurcher Loving op!! We also have large breed ddogs but nothing compared to the bond me and the dc have formed with our Lurchers. So underrated and misunderstood imo...
Just read ds5 his story with my 2 sat listening!!
Congratulations, just ever so slightly (massively) envious!!
Oh and is your camera broken btw??

She is lovely, I just don't know what the issue is. I just don't feel a connection if you see what I mean? She is very placid and has pretty much ignored us! I'm getting quite stressed about the whole thing as dh really likes her. I'm the one with cold feet.

She is probably ignoring you because she is a bit unsure what is happening. She doesn't realize yet that she is home, give her space to come to you. In a little bit she will be devoted and you will be the centre of her world.
