What do you get if you cross a Border Collie with a Poodle?

.... seriously! I'd like to know!

I imagine a super intelligent and energetic dog that requires a lot of mental and physical stimulation.

Does anyone have one?

So what's the punchline?

Branleuse · 25/09/2019 10:32

a mongrel. HTH

SoundofSilence · 25/09/2019 10:39

I agree with the PP who said a large, woolly nightmare.

I've had four border collies and a friend's standard poodles have spent a lot of time with us. The thought of collie drive combined with poodle attitude is a big hell no from me.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 25/09/2019 11:14

Urgh can people just stop with the designer dogs already, it's beyond a joke!

RandomMess · 25/09/2019 12:07

Seriously read and look up the Puli - it's a sheepdog poodle cross with dreadlocks 🤷🏽‍♀️

tabulahrasa · 25/09/2019 14:37

I know one... it’s not particularly large, but woolly nightmare is pretty accurate...

TwattingDog · 25/09/2019 14:44

A dog with a hell of a brain, and in need of huge amounts of interaction would be my guess.

My parents had a Jack Russell crossed with a Springer Spaniel. Utter nightmare. That was before designer breed names cane along, so he was just a cross. He was also utterly mental - impossible to tire out, literally ran in circles all day and all night. Bad tempered with other dogs a lot of the time. He ended up being rehomed with a family who had lots of land - we were not the right family for him.

notonmywatch28 · 25/09/2019 20:44

You are all wrong, I have one and he's gorgeous ! He's not particularly high energy, enjoys hour long walks, but equally content with a plod round the block, doesn't moult, has been easy to train, loves to play with a ball, has the softest nature and is the prefect family dog. He does have the herding instinct of a collie ( appears to keep count of his family flock on a walk, no chance of sneaking off for a wild wee 😂), but also has the poodle prey drive wha. It comes to squirrels....
We've kept in touch with some of his siblings, and they are all amazing dogs. Several of my non dog loving friends have even said they'd have a dog if it was like him😯!
The only slight downside is being asked what breed he is where ever we go😆. To us he is a mongrel / Poodle cross , this is how he was sold to us , from a farm, at a farm dog price .

TheHorseOnSeventhAvenue · 25/09/2019 21:13

I’ve always wanted to cross a bulldog with a shih tzu - I believe people would pay a fortune for Bullshit puppies.

Foodtheif · 25/09/2019 21:16

Have you got a pic notonmywatch

Honeyroar · 28/09/2019 22:08

My friend has a couple. They're much smaller than a collie (obv they're mini poodle crosses), one has very tight curls, the other is wavy haired. They're much calmer generally than collies, although have their moments. They've both excelled at Flyball (although my friend lives for Flyball and probably would have excelled with any dog she puts that much training and competing hours in!).

@SheSaidNoFuckThat how do you think we got all these "breeds" in the first place? And on the eighth day God created the Poodle?

MsMustDoBetter · 01/10/2019 21:20

Thank you all!

I saw a puppy and it was utterly gorgeous, but when the owner told me it was a collie/poodle cross I did wonder what on earth they were thinking.

A coloodle. A relative has one.

EnidPrunehat · 04/10/2019 12:46

You'll get a hairy crossbred dog that's likely to be enormous, very strong and exceedingly clever in a way that could be very challenging if not provided with the mental stimulation necessary. Why would you want to do this? Dogs are dogs, not experiments.

WheelDecide · 05/10/2019 16:42

how do you think we got all these "breeds" in the first place? And on the eighth day God created the Poodle?. So true. I don't understand why people don't get that - it's just going back a step.

tabulahrasa · 05/10/2019 18:01

“how do you think we got all these "breeds" in the first place?”

Depends on the breed.... none were created by people crossing random breeds and giving whatever came out a new portmanteau breed name...

Some of you are over thinking it. It is just a cross breed, and a fab one in my opinion. He's not enormous, he's got long legs but is not that big under all his fur ,he's lab sized but weighs less (22 kg)so is not that strong. All he needs is a good off lead walk once a day and a hair cut every 3 months.

That first bit was meant as a quote !

Foodtheif · 10/10/2019 20:06

@notonmywatch28 He is lovely! His temperament sounds lovely too. How old is he? Whereabouts was the farm you got him?
