Hi

Where did everyone get their dogs from?
If you didn't adopt a rescue where/how did you find your puppy?

as part of our business dog walking and pet care we received a call from SS to ask us to pick up a dog who's owner had been taken to hospital and died then take him to rescue. the owner was an alcoholic and the flat was a squalid mess. patch or spot as he was known then like the owner toileted in the flat on the floor he had never been out his claws were curled under into his pads he had a cat collar on cutting into his neck and he was alive with fleas. we wrapped him in a blanket he had barked for help so long he had no bark left when he was with the owner he just had what the owner dropped on the floor such as chips etc needless to say he never made the rescue we kept him took us two years to turn him round but he is now a gorgeous cheeky terrier.
our little mickey moo is a chihuahua who came into the rescue i work for at 22 months old he has had four owners has been used as a stud dog and so scared of humans took us 3 days to get him out of his crate. its going to be another long road but it will be worth it

Local rescue. Absolutely fab part of the family now.

MeltingSugs · 20/09/2019 21:55

Champdogs. By chance a mating was advertised that I was interested in. I'm not looking for a pup now but I still check regularly and rarely see any litters of interest even in Champdogs.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 20/09/2019 22:39

Through a rescue.

DirtyWindow · 20/09/2019 22:48

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork it just goes to show how "reputable" the Kennel club really are Sad

I'm strangely glad that there are people on here admitting that their dogs came (unwittingly) from puppy farms - it's only by reading these sorts of posts that others can learn to recognise the signs.

Rescued through Bulldog Rescue in West Sussex

RSPCA, she was tge last one from an unwanted litter. She was 4 months old when we got her.

Xraydog · 20/09/2019 22:56

Air bnb I stayed at had two bitches - a mother an daughter. I got to know them very well over the course of a few months as I stayed there regularly for work reasons. When the owner mentioned she was having a litter of pups I nearly bit her hand off! Three years on I have the best dog in the world, hands down. I’m in regular contact with the “back yard breeder” and very happy I made the right decision.

rookiemere · 21/09/2019 08:29

DH arranged it, think it was gumtree Blush. But family totally genuine, teen girls who loved cuddling the puppies, bitch was her own and clearly well loved and was her first litter, all relevant health checks carried out.We picked our puppy up last and he slept in her DDs bed on the last night. There is a FB group and we still keep up with many of the siblings and had a couple of meet ups with the mum.

Ddog is about 15 months now and has an amazing nature. He's meant to be a retriever/ poodle cross but someone got some blood tests on theirs ( don't know if that's a genuine thing or not) and there may be some setter there as well - certainly looks as if there is.

I guess we were lucky. I hadn't read all the stuff on here about puppy farms. Now I know I wouldn't get a dog the same way.

Answerthequestion · 21/09/2019 13:14

I bought a poodle cross from a breeder. I had to wait on a waiting list and answer a questionaire. Once the pups were born I got a daily photo and weight every couple of days all on a specially set up FB group for the litter. We met the mum and the other pups in the litter. They were feeding from mum and so have no doubt who she was. Dad was also around and we played with him: once we had chose pup she sent the FB group videos every day of first trip outside, first taste of solid food, photos of the vet and them having their jabs, she told us which days they were being weaned and when she had taken them away from sleeping with mum.

We came away with a massive pack of information, all the parents health checks, advice about which jabs to have and strict instructions for the vet to phone her to discuss if he disagreed.

She has a number of dogs and is clearly obsessed. Each litter gets birthday wishes on her FB page. She has urns and benches and plaques in memory of dogs who have passed away. She recently had one of her stud dogs done as he wasn’t being nice to the other dogs so she decided to stop using him as she wanted him to be calmer and more friendly to the other dogs

I have absolute faith that our gorgeous pup came from a loving and caring home.

My boy came from ‘an accidental litter’ that I found advertised on pets4homes. The lady raising them wasn’t the owner of the parents but she’d taken them in in order for mum to have the puppies safely. So mum and dad were there to meet. They couldn’t have been better cared for if they were KC registered. I’m still in touch with the lady who raised them and other people who had puppies from the litter almost daily. It was a very odd situation that could’ve screamed ‘puppy farm’ but it really wasn’t dodgy, it checked everything out throughly. She was just an amazing lady who raised the puppies for someone who wasn’t responsible enough to do it and made sure they all went to perfect homes.

My girl is from a similar bred at home background, not an official breeder. And we can’t wait to bring her home. Again I checked everything and I’m confident that it’s not a cover for anything dodgy.

No. 1 - via kennel club. Wouldn't trust them now but puppy )we got her at 8 weeks) was from a lovely home and we kept in touch with the 'breeder' (their dog only had 2 litters) and off for 12 years.

No. 2 - Dogs Trust (9 months old)

No, 3 - Labrador Rescue (6 months old)

No. 4 - word of mouth - owner couldn't cope (10 weeks old)

siratcha · 22/09/2019 07:25

Reputable breeder from Champdogs

AsahiGo · 03/10/2019 07:56

Private seller at ten months old. Rescue centres local to us had no dogs suitable as we have youngish children. I avoided buying a puppy as I like to give older/rescue dogs a chance!

183fredamarleymum · 04/10/2019 17:45

Got our lunatic from Birmingham Dogs Home. We were looking for an adult dog. Smaller breed we thought.

We choose an 8 month old chocolate lab with large paws. Yes he,s a big boy. We all love him and he has calmed down a fair bit.
Latest obsession is licking you awake every morning then licking the pillow case. Anyone for a soggy pillow.

Smileyoriley · 04/10/2019 19:01

First two were rescues, then recently got a puppy from a local Breeder. I wanted to rescue again, as we have always done so before, but gave up as the rescue we usually go to made it so difficult we just gave up!

Wolfiefan · 04/10/2019 19:05

I wanted a specific breed. I started with the breed club and was put in touch with some breeders. I waited for ages until my girl became available. Had to have a home check and references and was basically interviewed before they would even let me meet her. Still in touch with breeder and lots of my girl’s litter mates. Would never buy from gumtree etc.
