Further to earlier thread about the worst things you have bought your dog - what are the best? I got him a cool mat for summer and a heat pad for winter (he feels the cold). Both brilliant. His ruff wear web master harness was also totally worth the money.

Oh yes, the sadness when you lose a ball.

Thankfully we haven't lost one for years, but when she was younger we used to lose them more often and she would get quite upset and refuse to move away from the place were the ball disappeared. If I managed to get her to walk on she'd keep running back to check if she could find it.

The last one we lost in the undergrowth at the side of the park - it backs onto woods so is quite bushy and wild. Every time we passed that place, which wasn't that often, she would have a good sniff there so I would have a dig around too.

After a couple of weeks I actually found the ball. She was really happy and went on as if her long lost child had been returned to her.

Used to make me feel so sad for her when a ball went missing.

@whereiwanttobe, if lead walking is still a problem, invest in a slip lead and use a clicker and treats. As for recall, teaching the stop whistle is a great reinforcer, especially if you teach it in association with a reward ('the second you stop, Bonzo, I will throw this ball!') They pick it up PDQ.

Scent work is great if for some reason you can't get outside. You can also do it outside - hide a dummy in the grass and get your dog to hunt up to it. Great brain work.

A Thunder Coat. Not used very often now (originally bought when adolescent dog started destroying kitchen when left) but it has an amazing effect when we do use eg fireworks, travelling.

Is that to me joystir59?

Thank you.

Yes, she doesn't get attached to many toys, but those she does, she's very loyal to. I'm very lucky with her, she's a very sweet natured dog.

Oh I forgot the clicker - has transformed his training. Must get a licky mat!

Paid almost £200 for professional dog clippers and blades. He won't cooperate at the groomers and hates being clipped but needs to be. These clippers do in ten minutes what used to take me over an hour, with him getting more and more stressed out.

A //www.alphadogtoys.com/dog-treat-dispenser-toys-molecule-ball-large.html Molecuball. Bought 15 years ago, has survived being the absolute favourite toy of three dogs and still doesn't have a scratch on it, despite our current food-mad cocker carrying and pushing it around for hours every day.

I do not have a destructive dog so he is very loving to toys it turns out 😂
I bought him some soft toys from pets at home. £2, a doughnut and a hotdog. Was expecting them to last a week or 2. But he lovingly carries them around, licks them to sleep, won’t go to bed without them etc. Best £4 ever!

I thought my husband had lost the plot when he spent shitloads of money on a dog bed but my god it has been the best investment ever! It has just travelled 100 of miles on holiday with us and wherever we put this bed down our dog sleeps like a baby Smile

Not something I bought, but we folded up an old double duvet as a bed next to the bedroom window and ours loves just hanging out on it.

But the Halti headcollar has greatly improved walks and I love it.

Second the Tuffies nest (even better with a fleece cover so the edges can't be chewed)

For amusement value, the cheapie light-up LED collars from Amazon have been fantastic - when we let the dogs out for a final potter around the garden before bed, all you can see are two strips of blue/red at different heights running around in the darkness.

A bubble machine. She's obsessed with it.

And a soft Donald Trump toy, that she likes to play Tug Of War with. So far, both DT's arms have been pulled off. Go Maggie!

Oh and her crate, as she was toilet trained virtually overnight with it.
