My puppy is 11 weeks old and she’s been here for 3 weeks now.
In that time I’ve not had a full night’s sleep and tonight has been the tip of the iceberg.
She settled down at 10.30 in her crate, then woke up at 12 so I took her out and she quite quickly had a pee.
She then woke at 3 and again I took her out. She usually goes quite quickly but tonight I stood out for 10 minutes and nothing. I just opened my door to get my umbrella and she ran in and back in her crate.
I shut the crate and left her while I nipped to the loo. She cried and I rather bad temperedly shushed her.
In the 30 Seconds I was in the loo she’s peed all over her bed and all over her pen.

I cried. Cleaned her bed and pen and took her back outside in the rain. She did a poo and is now fast asleep.
She’ll be awake again at 5.30 for the day.

So fed up Angry

I'm with you op Ive I only had our pup a week and I'm so tired!

Putanotherwashon · 14/08/2019 08:40

@Girliefriendlikescake it’s torture isn’t it? We’ve been up every night for 3 weeks now Shock.
She goes to bed at 10.30ish, wakes up at 1.30-2ish has a wee and a poo outside. Sleeps til 4.30ish and then has another wee and poo!!!!!!!
Who even poos in the night???? Don’t want to leave her and come down to an unpleasant stinky crate and puppy in the mornings so don’t feel like I can just leave her.
Surely she’ll sleep through soon Confused

Mine had me up every night for three weeks. Then that was it!
Who poos at night? Babies. You have a baby dog. All your (bloody hard) work now will make your life so much easier later. I took my nearly three year old out at 10:30 last night. She slept until 8am this morning. No mess. No distress. But the early weeks were bloody hard.
You’re doing brilliantly.

DullPortraits · 14/08/2019 11:40

Only sympathy i have is for the poor puppy! Yet another irresponsible person who has taken on a dog without researching and taking in to consideration what owning a puppy entails AngryAngry why do people do it?!

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 14/08/2019 11:46

DullPortraits it sounds like OP is caring for the pup really well and simply coming on here to let off steam and for support. Nowt irresponsible in that.

OP - why no picture yet?! Grin

Wolfiefan · 14/08/2019 11:53

I spent months and months and months researching. I grew up with dogs. I still found it bloody hard work and frequently overwhelming. My pup couldn’t be left at all as she got so distressed.
Yes to pic!!!
The pups I feel sorry for are the people who don’t care and don’t bother. Crate them all hours of the day and night and then get cross when they end up with an unruly and untrained dog.

Putanotherwashon · 14/08/2019 11:56

Thanks @DullPortraits, lovely supportive post there Grin.
Picture for you @Ihaventgottimeforthis...

Halo
PuppyMonkey · 14/08/2019 12:04

Yeah OP, you’re so irresponsible getting up in the night two or three times and stressing about caring for your puppy. You heartless creature.Confused

Why do doggy threads attract so many knobheads like DullPortraits is the real question.Grin

FiveShelties · 14/08/2019 12:05

She is gorgeous. Honestly, it really does get better and you will forget - may take around 25 years, but you will forget.Grin

Putanotherwashon · 14/08/2019 12:10

SmileSmile you have made me smile! Thanks everyone (except grumpy)!!

spiderlight · 14/08/2019 13:57

Oh, she's gorgeous!!!

It will get easier, I promise. We had a rescue pup from 16 weeks and the nights were nearly as bad as having a newborn at first, but they'll be a distant memory soon, honestly. Stick with it.

(I won't mention the marvellous job we have done in accidentally training our 8-year-old spaniel, now known as the Alarm Cocker, to go off at 5am cheerfully demanding breakfast)

Girliefriendlikescake · 14/08/2019 17:23

The last couple of nights have been a bit better, he will go from 10pm til 5am and normally will go back til 6.

I was surprised at the pooing at night as well!!

Your pup is lovely op

Here's my little menace 😉

We had night one with our new puppy last night and am now getting a bit scared. Tried him in the crate but ended up sleeping next to him on the sofa. He slept like a log and I don’t think I slept at all!
He won’t go near his crate yet but is still a bit off his food so once he gets more hungry again hopefully we can encourage him into the crate a bit. Can’t work out what strategy to approach this evening and am scared of creating bad habits.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/08/2019 20:49

I got up in the night with mine. And he was toilet trained very quickly. It is so worth keeping on getting up.

Girliefriendlikescake · 15/08/2019 22:46

Sunny and Put join us on the young puppy survival thread! Lots of support and understanding there.

compulsiveliar2019 · 16/08/2019 02:06

When mine was little I used to leave her with one of my worm hoodies so that she could snuggle up with something cosy that smelt of me. It could have been coincidental but she did seem more settled with it.

MattMagnolia · 16/08/2019 08:43

I’ve co slept with pups but know many people wouldn’t. We only had one little puddle on the bed.
Vaccinations are irrelevant, you can’t catch any of the diseases which dogs are vaccinated against. You could get fleas bites but all pups should be treated for fleas, using prescription products. Bathing does not kill fleas and you shouldn’t need to bath a puppy.
