New cockapoo puppy

Hi all, I’m hoping for some advice. First time puppy own to a 10 week old cockapoo. We’ve had him one week. He’s loving his crate, will go in to it himself and is sleeping at night with one or two times needing out to pee. He is (mostly) using the back garden to toilet and knows to come for a reward when he does that. I’m loving him but nervous as I am clueless about what to do. He hasn’t spent any time to speak of alone so I want to build on that as from September he’s goig to have to be alone during the day (I’ll be able to pop home at lunchtime a couple times a week). How can I teach him to be ok to amuse himself for a period of time, knowing I’ll have to start small and build on that?

I don't think people are being mean OP - they're being honest. Lots of us on here learnt the hard way about how hard it can be to leave puppies on their own.

We had this naive idea that ours would go to work with DH - it lasted all of three days - it just wasn't possible. We then booked him into daycare which lasted a year before we realised it didn't really suit him, and now he spends the day with my in-laws which he absolutely loves.

He's eighteen months old now and there's no way I could leave him longer than 3 hours or so, and even then only after a good long walk/run. He wants to be with someone (not necessarily us - he's quite happy with my
FIL) and he needs letting out to the toilet/someone to fuss him/cuddles too!

I think at three months or so he'll be too young for a walker as he'll only be able to walk for 15 minutes or so at a time. Lots of daycares won't take them if they're not neutered (and at his age he's far too young for that) or if they're under six months of age. I think you've got a lot to think about to make it work with such a young dog - sorry to put a downer on the situation!

If it's doggy day care your interested in, the one we use took pup at 13 weeks. He had to have had his vaccines first. They don't mind if pup is neutered or not.
We found the doggy day care before we got pup and if it's something you want to do I would definitely be looking for a place sooner rather than later.
Pup adores other dogs, which I'm sure is a result of daycare

Puppies teeth at around 16 weeks of age, so just when you are planning on returning to work and leaving it for hours alone. I don't think anyone would advocate leaving a dog or puppy crated for that length of time anyway, that would just be cruel, but a combination of a teething, stressed puppy left alone with the run of a room or the house is not going to be good. Expect damage to furniture/door architraves/skirting boards etc.

You really need to sort out someone to mind this dog so it's not alone, or daycare. Or return to the breeder to rehome if neither of those options are viable.

There are so many of these threads at the moment. What is going on?

OP our puppy is the age you are proposing to leave your at. We could probably leave him for an hour (although we haven't). A whole day at work is just not going to work plus how are you going to train and socialise him properly.

You're going to need to look at daycare.
