... would you ‘think’ Anything? Kids want to name new puppy woody but I don’t know if I’m being silly about penis connotations?

newmomof1 · 30/06/2019 17:06

The idea that it could be penis-related says a lot about you...Hmm

RaininSummer · 30/06/2019 17:09

Thinking Woody was a penis reference would be very low on my list of thoughts if at all. Toy story and woodpecker rate much more likely.

shinynewapple · 30/06/2019 17:52

I had to think what you meant by 'penis connotations' - I've never heard the term before! So, no, I don't think that's the first thing will come into people's heads! I'd have thought of Toy Story.

labazsisgoingmad · 30/06/2019 17:54

first thought toy story never heard of the penis connection sounds a brilliant name for a dog i imagine a scruffy terrier with a name like that!

Inbedbynine · 30/06/2019 18:50

Phew! I haven’t heard woody used recently, more in my 20’s and it was used a LOT for a hard on! I’m not a sex pest i swear, although maybe I am if when I hear woody I think hard penis, who knows Grin

I know woody woodpecker too, but woody from toy story is second on my list for word association.

I did actually tell them what it ‘could’ mean as they are both boys and found it quite funny although I did tell them not to use the word as it will get me in trouble Smile

Pup is chocolate and cream and they think because he’s brown woody is perfect! I wanted George!

Wouldn't have occurred to me. I'd think of Woody from Madness and Zoe Ball and Norman Cook's son.

While out with my dog yesterday, I came across a dog called Mosely.....im thinking why the hell would you name your dog after a well known fascist politician? I was left wondering if his cat was called Hitler or something.

ferrier · 30/06/2019 19:18

Probably because, like me, you'd never heard of them.

Spidey66 · 30/06/2019 23:35

But if you'd not heard of him, you'd be hard pushed to think of Mosely as a name. I was there with my husband, two friends and their 16 year old daughter, and after he'd gone we all looked at each other and said 'as in Oswald? OMG.'

My knowledge of English politics and history isn't vast in any stretch of the word, but even I know of Oswald Mosely,

PositiveVibez · 01/07/2019 19:37

I would deffo think of Woody from Toy story and think it was a really cute name for a pet.

But you OP! What a dirty l'il birdie you are 😂😂😂

Inbedbynine · 01/07/2019 19:54

I can’t help it Blush dc are adamant on woody but I don’t think I can!

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 01/07/2019 19:59

Is it Toy Story your DC are thinking of? Could they pick another character instead? Buzz ... Slinky ... or Forky Grin.

Ridingthegravytrain · 01/07/2019 20:01

Woody is fine. Boner, not so much 😆

KeepSmiling83 · 01/07/2019 20:03

We are waiting for our puppy to come home and our favourite name is Woody! Our youngest DD who is 4 came up with it and we love it! Definitely think of Toy Story when we say the name!

Inbedbynine · 02/07/2019 08:19

I certainly wouldn’t call him boner that’s for sure. I just can’t not think of penis when I hear it! I’m trying to sway them to something else!

When I was in Germany at an outdoor cafe I heard a man say 'Adolf!' and a very large, handsome German Shepherd came running up to him Shock

tabulahrasa · 02/07/2019 14:25

Oh, is woody not that widespread? I always wondered how Sean Paul managed to have it in songs uncensored tbh...

I’d think toy story to start with, but then I would have a bit of a snigger to my self, because I’m like 13 clearly, lol

Inbedbynine · 02/07/2019 15:58

It doesn’t seem to be? I asked a friend in her 20’s, she had no clue, someone my age laughed so maybe age? I have no idea? That or I’m just a dirty old perv...

Ilovemylabrador · 02/07/2019 16:00

Toy story or Allen? Love the name

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 02/07/2019 16:14

I have a Chihuahua called Rocky. I'm sure noone thinks of Rocky Balboa when they look at him though Smile

MysweetAudrina · 02/07/2019 16:21

People call their children willy, dick and fanny so think it is probably ok to call your dog woody.

pigsDOfly · 02/07/2019 18:31

I clicked on here because I wondered what the rest of your question was. The erection connection never occurred to me.

Woody's a great name for a dog. Can't imagine many people are going to hear the name and think, 'penis'.

Winenotttea · 02/07/2019 21:53

Woody is a completely normal name. I’ve always fancied a horse called Dave and a dog called Brian 😂

We have three dogs who all have human names but sadly no Brian, hubby refused 😂

SophyStantonLacy · 03/07/2019 12:42

Moseley is also a suburb of Birmingham. Maybe they are very fond of it. I also know a German man living overseas who named his son Adolf - nicknamed Dolfin. I always found it mind boggling.

Anyway I would just think of Toy Story, although I know a little boy called Woody (short for Woodrow I think). I do know the slang meaning though (in my 30s).
