At lunchtime today we pick up our gorgeous new rescue dog, I'm so excited I couldn't sleep!
He's a 2 year old JRT X Beagle (possibly) we are very ready for our lives to be turned on their heads!!

I think so too, avocado. I've already had her described as an "ankle biter"!

TuesdayDog has been great since she came home. Much like yours, made herself at home on the sofa! First night I was close to having a meltdown, but she has come on leaps and bounds in the short time she's been with us.

A bit late catching up! Very good pics - what a lovely little dog - I rather like JRTs - there are a lot local to me. Will be interested to hear more about his exploits. Hopefully, he did not give you a sleepless night. My rescue dog, who was older when I got her - 4 and a half was so busy on her first night trying not to disturb me that I found she had had to do a poo in the night and had quietly taken herself to the back door and done it on the lino, which meant it was very easy to clean up. I greatly appreciated that. She got her innards attuned with the timetable after that first day/night and did not have to do it indoors again.

So far so good, I had a very peaceful night as my DS19 said he'd stay up with him last night & the pair of them ended up sharing a bed! Who knows what tonight will bring!
He's not really eating his food, I've left it down all day (dried) & he's picked at bits but not sure if I'd be better to remove it & try again later?
Loving his walks & no accidents so far! All is good!

I wouldn't free-feed - we were advised to feed twice a day at set times (we feed 7am and 7pm) - and to leave it down for 20 minutes. If he doesn't eat in that time, throw away and feed fresh at the next meal. No treats or titbits inbetween.

It works - dogs won't starve themselves! Even now ours misses a meal occasionally but it's never more than two meals in a row.

Ok @adaline I'm going to do that. He's definitely had far too many treats so that's not helping I'm sure. Will ease off on those & remove food after 20 mins!

Yeah - we had this problem with ours!

Basically he would refuse meals because I'd feel bad and give him chicken instead, aha. So now he doesn't get treats unless it's on walks or training sessions - then his food is limited so it evens out calorie-wise, if that makes sense?

He does get human food now, but on our terms. If he wants to refuse a meal he can do, but he won't get anything else until his next one!

He's been a bit better today with his food @adaline ignored his breakfast so it was removed after 20 mins, a few training treats on his walks & then he ate most of his tea, leftover bit was removed again. We'll get there!

My current dog and her predecessor are/were both unexcited by a complete diet of dry dog food and willing to go without until really desperate (and then eat with a sort of sour expression). You could try mixing in some tasty wet food (make sure you get a good one - not just any old thing). I wouldn't like to be on a totally dry food diet myself! Breakfast is often ignored anyway - they aren't really hungry then. Mine usually eats breakfast after a long walk (and sometimes not even then).

He is gorgeous. Does he get a walk in the morning? If so give him breakfast after his walk, I would mix in some high quality wet food as well.

@doodleygirl @mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork I think I'm going to have to try the wet food mix trick as he's eaten about 50g of food since Thursday (should have 120g) per day.
He's been having his walks mid morning & then early evening.

Forthglade is good and you can get it in some supermarkets. If you order online millies wolfheart is also good.
