Paddy Whacks

Just discovered these at the pet shop and bought a bag for pup, 5 month old Lab.
He loved it and kept him busy for ages.
What I'm wondering is are these ok? I see they are a natural animal product. is it ok for pup to have one a day or is that too much. Are they safe? They are about 6 inches long.

When trying treats I go by how my dogs poo is for the following days because lots of treats like paddy whacks upset his stomach.

As for safe I would never feed him any kind of chew like that unless I am around as he once choked on one which was a very scary minute until he managed to dislodge it himself from his throat.

Mine loves it but I wouldn't give it everyday as they can be quite rich. When mine was a puppy his stomach was upset quite easily by these chews unfortunately. Maybe see what his poos are like over the next 24 hours first?

Mine is 15 months and gets chews each day. Some he copes with better than others - it's just a bit of trial and error really!

Both my previous (adult) dogs struggled to digest paddywack. My lurcher once threw up a big lump of it completely undigested about three days after he'd had the chew. I stopped buying them - I was worried about them causing blockages.

thankyou for your replies. His poo has been normal afterwards, unlike when I gave him a supermarket chew when he vomitted orange goo afterwards. He never has a chew on his own, usually when I'm eating dinner to keep him busy

@spiderlight it's funny you should say that because mine just did the same thing last night. He's fine now but it came up while and undigested - quite scary really.

He won't be getting it anymore.

I don't like any of these chews to be honest. The runny outcome from the (veggie) pig's ear that I mistakenly gave dPup last month is something I don't want to repeat.

Most of these commercially prepared products are questionable - Dentastix and similar doing buggerall for tooth care - and others are just plain vile. If you've got a teething pup go for ice cubes, frozen carrots or as I did with dPup, a frozen, damp tea towel.

Mine has never had an issue with things like pizzles, ears, snouts or other entire body parts.

Out of curiosity I looked on the Pets At Home website this morning and lots of people said their dog(s) had problems with the paddy whack chews.

Mine loves it but he won't be getting it again that's for sure! He hasn't had any for a couple of days so I dread to think how long it had been sat in his stomach.

I don’t buy chews either for the choking reason but I give him carrots as he absolutely loves chewing them up
