The doghouse

Feeling really guilty

So 2 days into a week long holiday abroad.
Have employed a dog sitter to have our 8 month old pup in our house for the week, which incidentally costs a fortune.
I was promised that they wouldn’t leave the dog for more than 4 hours a day, usually split into 2 or 3 episodes.
I don’t think they realise we have cctv outside our house, and feeling very worried I checked the camera.
They left her for 3 hours this morning, 2 hours this afternoon and it’s been 2 hours already this evening and still no sign of them.
My puppy is usually left a maximum of 3 hours perhaps 3 times a week. Certainly not 7 hours in a day.
My friend just popped in to drop something off (she has a spare key) and has found the dog in a state. She’s chewed some chunks out of a door (which she has never done previously) and ransacked my house, probably out of boredom. Think cushions pulled off the sofa, rugs scrunched up.
I’m not very happy but feel awful as they’ll know I’ve spied on them if I mention it.
In their defence they have taken her for 3 walks today, 30 minutes each time, but she is not used to being left and now I’m on holiday and can’t relax and feel really guilty.
My friend can’t have her for me as she’s got a dog of her own that is dog reactive and a small child herself.
Wish I’d used kennels now as I know I’ll be checking the cctv all week.

If you pay for a dog sitter to stay in your home it is generally thought to mean they stay in it for the majority of the time. Home sitters usually charge much more than if they boarded the dog at their home so it's not unreasonable to expect more from them.

That's so shit OP, they are taking the piss.
Try a website like trustedhousesitters next time, for a free of charge pet/house sitter. My friend has used them and raves about it, she has had lovely people who have come to look after her pets in exchange for a free place to stay.

I’d rather put her in kennels or board in someone else’s home where there’s other dogs.
I figure that they’ll be at home for more hours a day in their own home as it’s not an inconvenience for them, and she’ll have the company of other dogs if she is left for a short period.
I’ll have a think.
Just thought someone in our home would be best for an 8 month puppy.

Name and shame, so we all know never to use this company. I wouldn’t pay them and I’d give them a bad review
