Luxating patellar

My dog has just been diagnosed with luxating patellar in both knees. She's nearly 3, not overweight. Has anyone dealt with this issue successfully and avoided surgery?

I thought it depended on the grading on whether surgery or non surgical treatment was recommended. Do you know the grading?

Ddog2 had a luxated patella in one knee after having surgery for ruptured cruciate ligaments in both knees. She had surgery for the luxation - tibial tuberosity transfer - and although she needed some weeks of cage rest (9, if I recall correctly), she was fine afterwards.

My dog (8) has bilateral luxating patellas , diagnosed at 2/3 yrs old I think they are both grade 2 . We’ve just kept him fit , ensure he doesn’t get too porky , feed a joint supplement ( I use Canine joint right ) and get him going up and down stairs a few times a day . I am very keen to not end up at surgery as when he has had other operations he is a pain with healing afterwards .

Still waiting for a grading from the orthopaedic vet who is checking the x rays. But my vet says it's low grade so keeping fingers crossed. She's a slim dog but I'm interested to hear about the up and down stairs exercise and supplements.

Fingers crossed the grading is low.
