I have googled this and apparently the Flexi Explore is the longest but I can't find it available here in the UK.
I am searching for a long retractable lead for our little jrt due to him repeatedly legging it when let off.

Teach your dog to walk to heel - that is by far the better option

and in the time it takes to train, or for dogs that you cannot train enough (eg older rescues), or for walking someone else's dog, or for a dog who reacts to others, so you need to be able to get them back quickly, or for a foster dog, or a dog that suddenly takes off after squirrels even though their recal is excellent at other times etc etc

Of course every dog should be trained. In the meantime, in the real world where that is an aspiration rather than a reality......

I used longlines with our foster dogs, as we had to have them on a lead. To be honest, it was a pain. Fine for the dogs who were happy to trot along close, and a shoulder ripping nightmare for those who wanted to explore. To be fair, we only had each one for a couple of weeks, so any lead training never had a chance to take effect! One problem was waking with 10 m of muddy wet lead in your hands, letting it in and out.

I prefer an retractable (not allowed to use them on the foster dogs, as they can break) I only used the tape ones and always one up in weight from the dog. So much depends on the dog, where you are waking and what the issue is. So for our dog that we adpted, he lunged and pulled and dragged, so no way was he going on a retractable, as he would have broken my arm and the lead!

For all those saying you need to train, it took me 5 months of daily training to get to the point where he walked without pulled. Proper training, I'm no lightweight, but that is how long it took to untrain the first 3 years and retrain him to something acceptable.

My cocker spaniel spent around 6 months on a long training line when he got to a year old and suddenly decided he wasn't going to listen to me anymore ..............

Those were not happy times, but they do come out the other side, if that's any help OP. Thankfully dog no 2 is just coming up to a year and her hearing still seems to be working so far Hmm
