(Lighthearted) my greyhound hasn't got on sofa should I be worried?

He's not even tried to put one paw on. Dozes on living room rug amongst the kids or on his bed.

He's been here 3 days and is a perfect gentleman. Loves all dogs and people he meets.

Should I be worried? Hmm

I really want one but DH and both DC think they are horrible looking. What's wrong with them?

He looks like a poppet OP.

What's wrong with my family, I mean! Nothing wrong with greyhounds!

Oooh is that Orbit?! DP was besotted with him when we stopped by the kennels a little while ago...we have two of our own already though so no room on the sofa sadly (although that might not have been an issue afterall Grin) but he was a very sweet boy.

I wouldn't worry about him being defective just yet, our first boy categorically acted as if he didn't have the faintest idea what a sofa was for the first week so we were delighted and actively praised him when he did finally clamber on! There's no getting him off the blooming thing these days though!

Second boy took a few weeks, but again now happily spends all his time on the sofa...sometimes they just take a while. In honesty I would embrace the time you have before he does discover the sofa as once he does you'll spend all your time contending with legs everywhere and all cramming down one end as DDog seems to take up all the space Grin

Our grey still won't get on the sofa and we've had him 2 years now. He wouldn't get on our bed for the first couple of weeks though and now you can't get him off it!

Wishiwasrunning2 · 25/02/2019 21:12

@MagicalTwinky yes he was Orbit! At CCGT.

He's just the best dog ever!! Perfect with kids and all dogs he meets, definitely made our house a home 😍

Ddog didn't use to ever get on the sofa - alas he has got cheeky in his middle age but still waits until a blanket is put down first!

Passmethecrisps · 25/02/2019 21:29

He is extremely lovely and this is a total coincidence as today I saw a fox in field at the side of the road running REALLY fast. Then I noticed it being chased by a greyhound. They both ran into the road but the headlights of the cars distracted the dog. It was really busy and I had to get home but I hope doggy was ok.

Your is very lovely

My faulty greyhound will also not be tempted into our sofa... we have two sofas and one is large so plenty of space for him and me. I've got him as far as two paws on by using treats and praise... but I think this will take some time. Alas, I really need a cuddle as have been laid up with a bad back for aaages.

I thought I would encourage him by purchasing him a knitted jumper to wear in the house to keep cosy, I've told him it's ordered but it hasn't convinced him... his fluffy blanket is on sofa too...

Any other ideas??

Included photo of his fav spot for reference.

Any progress yet Wish?

Orbit is a particularly fabulous name and suites such a particularly fabulous dog!

Babygrey7 · 13/03/2019 22:16

Famous last words OP

Mine slept happily on the stone floor to start with (next to her beddie Confused).... that lasted 2 weeks

She was on best behaviour, you see, and did not want to assume, or impose

I agree that greyhounds add so much happiness to a home, just by "being"

There is something very trusting about them, which always touches my heart ❤

Wishiwasrunning2 · 16/03/2019 10:26

@Babygrey7 I think that's exactly it. He just doesn't want to assume anything or get anything wrong! Far too polite for this household.

He was a racer for 4 yrs so I think he is still adjusting to affection, he now seeks us out for a shoulder/head rub so that's progress. He's started roaching in the evening Smile He doesn't think he's worth of the sofa!

He's also now scared of the kitchen floor as he tried to sprint the last bit to the carpet and slips (obviously) so now that bit of the floor is scary to him. We are finding it a little bit funny if we're honest, and for some reason are buying more mats for the floor so it's not so scary!!

chickensaresafehere · 16/03/2019 10:37

We had to strategically place non slip mats across our tiled kitchen floor,as our ex racer rescue grey hated the floor, with a vengeance. She didn't go upstairs but did love the sofa.
But she did have 3 legs!
Our lurcher,on the other hand,is not fazed at all by the floor, hogs the huge corner sofa & thinks our bed is hers,& we should be grateful that she lets us sleep in it Hmm
