Could my dog be cold?

My little Staffie is 5 years old and has just started to wake me up barking during the night, (not every night though) usually about 3am then 4am if I get up and give her a cuddle she will drop off to sleep immediately. As this is a new behaviour and nothing as changed I am wondering if, as she is getting a bit older she is feeling the cold at night. How do you keep you doggie warm at night as I’m not sure she would stay under a blanket.

Where does she sleep? If she has a bed perhaps adding a couple of extra blankets? Or switching it for something high sided that you can drape a blanket over the top to trap some heat in and make a cosy den?

She has her own bedroom and sleeps in her cage in there, but she is going downstairs and barking for me, I try letting her out but if I open the back door she looks at me as if to say, shut that door you moron, it’s freezing!! Then runs to the sofa. I will cover her cage in a thick blanket tonight and see how we go on. Not sure if me getting up and us having a snuggle on the sofa is just too nice for her and is becoming a habit, but something must be waking her in the first place.

Perhaps she can hear something. perhaps it is a habit. 5 isnt old surely?

HoraceCope. I don’t mean she is old, just getting older, I am 50 odd and I feel the cold more now so she may do too!!!!

Have you thought about a little coat or t shirt for her at night? Equafleece do some great ones.

I have been putting her jumper on but she rolls around that much she ends up out of it, I could try the equafleece as they have sleeves so may not shift as much. She prefers to be like this though. We have been here since 4 and she is happy as Larry😂

My lab does this at the weekends any time from 5 ISH, because he likes me to get up and get on the couch with him- my own fault as I've let it become a habit. Have you tried sharing a couch with a large lab ? I don't recommend it

She's a cutie. I've got greyhounds and they've got cosy jammies for when it gets really cold. I think she's just enjoying you coming down for a cuddle.

I could have written your post .. I was wondering yesterday morning if our staffy is getting cold at night as his ears were cold in the morning.
He's also 5 and not noticed cold ears before not even when it was snowing outside.
He has covered cage in hall with door open , where he starts the night but usually moves up to his bed on the sofa in the spare room during the night .
It could be a habit with yours , odd that it's always around the same time .

If it's the same time everyday it sounds like habit and if you get up with her she's not going to stop anytime soon!

That's about the time of night when my staffie cross joins me under the duvet so she probably is cold. I've recently got mine a "bully tankie" from Equafleece, which she wears on cold days on walks but is described as a bodywarmer to be worn in or outdoors. It is very cosy and she loves it. A bit pricey but I recommend you get yours one of these.
