going out without puppy

we have a 15 week old puppy. she s with us a month and we 're all super happy. she s settled in so well and is very relaxed and happy. I have left her for 4 hours before (christmas shopping) Christmas but my husband popped home for lunch and hung out with her for an hour.
we 're going to the panto soon and we 'll be gone for 4 hours but no one can pop into her for company. she does sleep but I m worried about her being lonely and I know we 'll all be worried until we get home to her.
any tips?

Radio on, walk, feed and let her out just before you go. Put absorbant pads down. She'll be fine. 🙂

she s getting her second vaccinations today (panto s on sunday) so we can't walk her for another 2 weeks. omg she s dying to go walking though and it 'll do her the world of good too. I talk her out under my jacket to get used to the world and she s gone from being scared to wanting to jump out...full of confidence lol.
We 'll be home for her active time (she gets a burst of energy at about 6)
thanks so so much for the reassurance...amazing how before puppy we didn't think twice about heading off but now we think about running to shops lol. kids are 12 and 8 so we 're all very into ou new baby. she s such a good dog...loves my niece who's 1....omg the 2 of them are adorable

In that circumstance, I’d take her for a walk. We’ve always walked are dogs straight after the second vac, she’ll be fine and the socialisation is good for her.

fantastic...can't wait to get out with her. being at home for a month is tough going. particularly as she's a bit older and needs a quick run out

Our puppy had his 1st vaccination at 10 weeks & vet said he would be ok to go out walks at 12 weeks as puppy’s own immune system would be developed enough by this time if he was in contact with unvaccinated dogs and or their poo, but to keep him away from puddles and still water until after his 2nd vaccination (on Sunday).

I have to admit this is the 1st time I’d ever heard of a puppy being allowed out before both vaccinations, but after being shut inside for 3 weeks we were more than delighted to follow vets advice. Happy to report DonegalPup is still very much alive & thriving after being allowed outside these past 2 weeks.

Be prepared that your puppy might not want to go for a walk first time. Ours stubbornly sat down on pavement and wouldn’t budge. Good luck

She s absolutly didn't fancy a walk...didn't make it down the drive. We 'll get there but tips are appreciated.
We played instead...she s brilluant at fetching and bringing back her ball...I don't thinkm we taught her though...I 've a feeling shes v clever because when she s "over it" she potters off with the ball.
she was very good, it was 3 hours in the end and no worries. she s 4 months and had her 1st vaccine with breeder but had to start again with us because she had a skin reaction.
the puppy stage is passing far too quickly

My dog was the same took quite some time to get her past the stage of sitting just outside the front door and not moving.

You could try luring her with treats, either held in front of her, which is what I did, or thrown on the ground a little way ahead.

I've read on here a lot of people carry or drive the puppy away from the house and then walk back, but I always feel that might be a bit scary for the pup to suddenly find themselves out in the big world in an unknown place.

Sounds like you're taking it really slowly and building up her confidence, so as you say, she will get there. Good luck.

thanks pigsdofly...love your name (some dogs do..was a book that choked me up) yes we 're taking it eeasy with her.
we had v premie twins (our dd is older and amazing) one of our sons pooped in his pants for 6 months...my theory..it 'll come right. it did so holly is on the back of lessons learnt...easy does it...it's a marathon not a sprint

Yes it is a marathon but well worth it. Dog's are amazing animals and a well trained one is a joy.

My dog will be 8 years old in April, can't believe where the time's gone.

I refused to get a dog till I was able to be home full time...I didn't realise how much she would change our lives...my 8 yr twins and daughter 12 are great and we thought it would be great for them...but it's dh and I who are all over her...

I got my dog when I retired. Like you wanted to make sure I would be able to be at home most of the time, although it doesn't always work like that and I've had to leave her longer than I would like at times but she's always been fine.

I think children often get used to having a dog around sooner than adults and although they might love the dog they don't see all its finer points the way adults who are doing most of the hard work and training might do.

Enjoy her. As you're finding already, she will change your life and bring you so much joy.

yes she s a minature schnauzer...we all went out for a walk today. opted for fields and she LOVED it. slept her head off afterwards. I m so glad she s ok to go out now because at 4 months she really needed to get out.
absolutly thrilled with her. thankfully kids are older pre teens so it's perfect as the genuinely do have time for her. if they were younger it would be harder. and we have her a month and no accidents for almost a week...can't believe it. although she got into the routine v easily...she just because part of us v quickly
