Spending Christmas at mums with ill dog?

Me, DH and our dog are meant to go spend Christmas with my family, leaving now. Just rang mum to say we were leaving and she just dropped into conversation that she's having a great morning, her dog vomited and had diarrhoea everywhere. Now DH is refusing to bring our dog into her house if there's an ill dog and saying we can't go anymore. We have no one to watch him so we either go or we don't. I've said we can just keep the dogs separate but that's not good enough. What would you do?

I'd take the dog and make sure they eat from separate bowls etc. Chances are whatever is making your mum's dog sick is not catching and likely something they ate rather than a bug.

ime when my dog is sick it's because of something he's eaten or done, not because of something infectious (what would that even be?).

DH sounds like he's using it as an excuse, tbh. It should be simple enough to feed the dogs separately.

I would take my dog. It's just as likely to be a food intolerance/colitis as anything infectious. Take the dog and go!

Yeah just bring different bowls. Could just be an upset tum from something eaten.

Thanks all. He's saying he doesn't want dog to get sick as we're spending 27th and 28th with his family and he doesn't want our dog to be ill when they're here. Just makes me feel like his family are more important than mine and that's not the case.

I'm sure your dog will be fine, it's most likely something your DMs dog has eaten and not contagious. Sounds like your husband is making an excuse to me.

Is your dog vaccinated? Because if so, then he’s probably covered from the nasty things that are contagious that cause d and v.

Sorry didn’t word that very well, I meant if he’s vaccinated then he is safe from the worst contagious diseases that are usually responsible for d and v.

He's fully vaccinated and wormed monthly

In all my time having multiple dogs, if one has had d and v, I’ve never known the others to ‘catch’ it.
Not to say it can’t happen obvs, but as pp has said, more likely the sick dog has ingested something.
