Lab puppy - seperate from mother

Hi,

I'm hoping for some advice from more experienced people! We have found a lovely litter of lab pups, now 9 weeks old. Seen all documentation and certificates for hips, elbows and eyes for both parents. They have been raised in the home but for the last week mum dog has been staying with the owners brother as apparently the pups keep biting her trying to feed etc. They are fully weaned. Is this normal? Is it a red flag? Breeder has said he will make sure mum dog is available for viewing with pups. Just want to get it right. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Are they show breeders, OP? Can they demonstrate a long running interest in Labradors?

We haven't been to see them yet as they are a long way away. All the photos are of the puppies in the home. I've seen photos of mum and dad kc pedigree, the hips, elbows and eyes certificates, the mating receipt. Thank you.

I’d be really worried that it’s a front for a puppy farm tbh...

It’s pretty normal for puppies to be a bit bitey and the bitch to get a bit fed up of them, it’s not so normal to send the bitch to another house...

As per messages, I don't think this is a puppy farm litter, but it's not a litter I'd travel for with a concern already.

I have show labs and I have seen the puppies with their mothers. As young pups saw the mum in feeding and by the time they were picked up at 8 weeks the mother was no longer feeding them but was still on the scene. My youngest puppies mother licked me and wagged her tail when she was in with her pups. Also good show breeders are only likely to have a puppy at 9 weeks or older due to a cancellation. I had seen my pup and paid a deposit weeks before collecting. Prior to that I had been on 2 waiting lists and was not successful in getting one.

I would walk away. At the very best they are inexperienced breeders at the very worst puppy farm or imports.
Even at 9 weeks and weaned, pups should not be separated from mum until they go to their forever home. She will be playing with her puppies and teaching them vital skills about being a dog.

If that was their concern they'd put pups in a playpen or in another room, not another house.

We got our pup at 12 weeks old - they were still with mum and she was playing with them - they weren't kept separate.

But I would be wondering why they had unreserved pups at 9 weeks old. Most breeders have waiting lists that go back before the pups are even born!
