Fostering for Christmas!

Hi all
Long time dog owner from adult rescues to pure bred puppies (when I had my sense years ago) to rescue pups. Our local rescue is asking for people to take in dogs for two weeks over Christmas. We have the space and cop on. We have an 11 year old rescue hound (with is 5 years) and an 8 year old who is v clued in. We filled in the foster form last week. Today saw they are looking for a foster home for mum and 7 lab/collie pups (4 weeks old) over Christmas. Thoughts please!!

If you haven't had experience with tiny pups, then it would be a big No from me. In fact, I've had more foster pups than I care to think about (current girl is snoring next to me), and I wouldn't take on a mum and her litter as I know caring for them is beyond my skills and time

Ok good to know. Thank you. I stupidly thought at that age they would be with mum a lot and wouldn’t go far and that a warm safe quiet pen in their own room would be most if the work, with lots of changing newspapers and obviously minding Mum. Thank you!

4 weeks is a difficult ,messy age ,the pups want to feed & the Mum generally wants them off ! They are ready for weaning & poop & pee everywhere as they start becoming little explorers.

Saying that though ,If you have a room that can be easily sectioned off & is easy to scrub down it's an amazing experience despite all the hard work .
You might also find you get very attached to the little monsters ...says the woman who now has one more

If the rescue was offering plenty of support, and you had a spare room where they could all stay separate from your own dogs, and you really weren't planning on leaving the house over Christmas.....

Actually I think I saw that litter you are talking about ( DSPCA? ) - they are heart meltingly gorgeous :(

Thanks for everyone’s input! X

We took one (another) dog today- thought the litter would be too much! The pups are with another family. Happy Christmas 🎄😃
