Artificial Grass

Does anyone have that artificial grass and also a dog?

I’m thinking of getting it for the side return of my house (which currently has patio tiles down) but I’m not surely if it will end up smelling terrible.

I have artificial grass and a pup. No issues at all. Doesn’t smell. You can hose it down or if you prefer you can get special disinfectant type stuff.

I’ve never had to do either

I have a big area of artificial grass which we use as an exercise area. He does occasionally pee and poo on it but prefers to still kill my real grass elsewhere .

In the hot summer it did get a bit stinky in places but we just watered it well.

You need to make sure the base is good and has good drainage. Ours has limestone if I remember correctly.

Expensive but has been worth it as he can run about without tearing grass and mud up.

Did you lay it yourself or get it done professionally?

I had it done professionally because it was near 50 square meters so not something I wanted to mess up as the more I read about it the more it was apparent that getting the base right was key.

You will also find the type of grass you choose impacts the cost. It's a bit like picking a carpet in that way.

We laid our ourselves but my husband is very handy. Plus ours was only 30 square metres. You do need to research it and do it properly but it meant we could go for a more realistic (and expensive) grass.
