My dog is terrified and I've just seen that there are in excess of 10 organised events within 3 miles tonight.

I've got doggy diazepam and he's going to have that about 6ish, I don't know if I should go and drive up into the hills behind our house as he loves the car, so lots of treats and chews and the diazepam in his happy place. I can listen to Harry Potter in the car.

Last year he tried to get into the tumble drier and the year before I came home from work to find him wedged behind the downstairs loo and wouldn't come out for hours so I got the duvet and laid with him in there. It seems ott but when you dragged him out from behind the toilet he just went straight back in.

I have been giving a herbal remedies for weeks, now in a darkened room with classic fm playing quite loudly and he is wrapped I a blanket. Panting and very wide eyed and jumpy but better than last year when he was pacing frantically while barking hysterically at the fireworks

wheelwarrior · 03/11/2018 20:52

I have had the tv on extremely loudly since 5.30 before fireworks started while he is a bit panty .Is nothing like last night when he was a complete mess

Don't think I will be going to bed any time soon though .May require nap tomorrow

CandyMelts · 03/11/2018 21:24

So rescuedog seems not the slightest bit fussed thank god, in fact he's extra chilled thanks to the music and lickymat.

Hope the rest of you get some peace and quiet soon

BiteyShark · 04/11/2018 06:17

Well the private fireworks parties around here stopped quite early on so around 11 both BiteyDog and I went to bed as usual. I am expecting a repeat tonight and Monday but if it's the same I think we will get through it ok as long as I stay with him in the spare room during them.

Hope all the other scared dogs managed to get some peace last night.

CMOTDibbler · 04/11/2018 07:46

Well, we had a total result. I can't express how much better ddog2 was than previous fireworks, and how fast he calmed once they stopped. Lets hope it is as good tonight !

Silverdog panted wide eyed and occasionally ran upstairs to hide outside the nursery door, but came to bed with me at 10 pm and by the time my husband came home at 10.30 was fast asleep with her head on his pillow.

We had a nightmare I think the neighbours must have thought we were torturing her! I’m going to be better prepared for New Year, the natural scents and sprays etc made no difference, she is going to need something strong from the vets.

BiteyShark · 04/11/2018 09:33

Poor dogs. I wish it was just once a year Sad

tabulahrasa · 04/11/2018 09:44

@Si1ver that’s basically a home made thunder shirt, you want it snug but not tight so if you’ve not got a handy stock of bandages, lol, tights are about the right amount of stretchiness.

@tabulahrasa yes, I've seen the cross wrapping stuff on SM. I've just realised that it's Diwali on Wednesday, when we're due to be out at an NCT class, so I think I'll give it a go tonight and see if it makes a difference.

I'd not thought to use tights for it though. What a great idea.

tabulahrasa · 04/11/2018 14:04

I’d love to take credit for it... but it was the chiropractor that tried a wrap on my dog (for something else) that suggested tights.

hailstone1 · 04/11/2018 14:18

I tried the wrap using a bandage. Didn't work for us unfortunately. White noise seemed to help quite a bit

BiteyShark · 04/11/2018 17:53

Well the bangs have started again tonight Sad. Arghhh why can't we as a country stick to one date to celebrate rather than making it fortnight fireworks Angry
