Even after 5 years and another dog in house I would so give anything just to hold him again and tell him how much I loved him and how so very special and loved he was .
I just miss him so much .
Anyone else having problems moving on and needing to see their darling dog again ?
If only they lived as long as we do .

lizzy So sorry to hear that. I'm going to have to make the same decision soon with my little bird. Her legs are going & she keeps losing her balance, the vet suggested accupuncture a couple of weeks ago so I took her on Thursday & she said it's nearly time. She's thankfully not in a lot of pain but it's her quality of life I need to think about.

She's 13.5 & I rescued her 5.5 years ago. She's been my constant companion & has been with me through some shitty times.

I'm spoiling her this weekend & having lots of cuddles. I'm dreading it and can't begin to imagine my life without her in it.

Lizzy1980 · 27/10/2018 09:59

Thank you all for your kindness. I'm fortunate to have friends and family who loved her too and understand how precious she was to me. I feel terribly lonely though even though I'm surrounded by loved ones. Bed time was difficult as she slept at the bottom of my bed (and quite often waited until I was asleep before she crept onto the pillow beside me) my bed was a lonely place last night so I ended up sitting up, thinking and crying.
StrawberryFizz, just remember that she has been a loyal friend to you and this is your opportunity to repay that loyalty by doing the kindest thing and making a decision for her which she's unable to make for herself. You'll still feel shitty like I do but at least you'll have done the right thing by your companion. Try to enjoy your weekend and savour every last precious moment with her. Sending you lots of love

StrawberryFizz26 · 27/10/2018 12:19

Thank you lizzy
My friends and family are the same as yours & know how much she means to me.
They all know she's had the best life with me after having a rotten time for the first few years.
I'm sure you gave your pup lots & lots of love & he'll always be with you.

Thinking of you & I'll be giving Daisy so many cuddles. She's currently snoring get head off next to me on the couch and we're snuggled under a blanket.

Lots of love to you too.

Xx

Limit I so get what you mean. I felt my early relationship with our dog was compromised by worrying about him pissing on our rental carpets. I was the one who had to housetrain him while other got the jollies.

echt · 28/10/2018 08:01

@echt Hope everything goes well with getting new puppy

poppy196 He's sleeping at my feet now. And I turned the long journey to see him into the most fabulous drive down the Great Ocean Road on the way home.

Nannewnannew · 30/10/2018 18:50

Oh yes I miss my darling lurcher so so much. He was PTS in January of this year and the pain is still so intense. He was the most gentle, loving and adorable dog you could ever hope to have. I feel privileged to have had him in my life, albeit only 7 years, as I homed him from the Blue Cross when he was aged about 6.

I would give anything to see and cuddle him again and tell him again how much I loved him.

Wasgij · 30/10/2018 18:58

I lost my darling boy a week ago, and I've never felt such pain. I'm utterly bereft, he's left such a huge hole... I would give anything - anything - to hold him one more time. I miss him so much :( We have another dog, but he was my first

Honeyroar · 30/10/2018 21:10

Oh I'm sorry Wasgij, it's especially raw and upsetting immediately after you lose a dog. Sending you a cyber hug.xx

LimitIsUp · 31/10/2018 09:19

Thanks for getting it echt. My new dog has reaped the benefits of my regrets - he is very indulged and showered with affection.

Sorry for your loss Wasgij Flowers

It looks like tonight is my last night with my little boxer girl, she’s 12 years old but she’s lost that sparkle she used to have. Barely eating and sleeping all the time. I’m not sure how I’m going to deal with life without her. She’s my first and I have no idea what to do, I have to let her go, it’s not fair on her but I just thought we’d got more time.

Nannewnannew · 01/11/2018 17:39

Oh so sorry to hear this rhedibrek, it’s so very hard and don’t know what to say apart from sorry. Making the decision is the hardest part initially but then you have to cope without your darling girl. The only consolation you have is that you gave her a lovely home and life. Sending you and your lovely girl a virtual hug. Xx

This thread is killing me!

We've only had ddog a few months and as soon as I realised how much I loved him.. I just thought. Oh shit. I honestly did not get that level of love you have for a dog prior. My heart breaks for those of you hurting. Flowers

rhedibrekuk · 04/11/2018 18:58

@poppy196 The house seems so quiet and I realised that I haven’t lived in it without a dog. I’m just pleased she went quickly and I think she was ready, the vet that came out was so nice (even if I was sobbing most of the time).

poppy196 · 04/11/2018 19:23

@rhedibrekuk my heart breaks for you .... just know where your at . It's so bloody hard isn't it .
Good for you on having vet out , so nice for them to leave us in a happy place .
When we had vet out we sort of set the scene with music playing that he had heard his whole life (pink Floyd) and he greeted vet like a long lost friend and got on his sofa for vet to to the deed 😟
They are no longer suffering, but we start grieving.
My husband never cries but he spent many nights just missing out boy so very much and just sobbing .
💐🌺🌸 for you and remember you did your best and your darling dog will always be in your heart x

@Wasgij How are things ? I'm hoping you have support around you as I found with time it got harder as it was longer ago that I had held him and kissed him so kinda missed him more with each day . Thinking of you 🌸

My first dog. We got him when I was 11 - a complete surprise as I'd always been told no. He was 4 at the time, an RSPCA rescue who had lived on the streets. He was so clever (could take tops off milk bottles) and funny (insisted on walking on walls)

He lived until I was 24. I went with my mum to have him put to sleep, and it was the most agonising thing I've ever done. For years afterwards I would dream the events of that day over and over, up until the point the vet gave him the injection - then the story would change, he would fight back and the vet would tell me to take him home. Each time I'd wake up looking for him.

I still have his ashes. I've never been able to part with them. He was an amazing dog, and I would do anything to have another cuddle.

poppy196 · 04/11/2018 19:36

@MimsyBorogroves wow 24 what a great age . He sounds amazing .
How wonderful it would be to just spend some time with our beautiful dogs again .

My darling Pippin. Died so shockingly in an accident running into something. I rescued her as an emaciated 6 month old. Thank God she had 7 years of love with us. I'd give anything to see her again.(She hated the camera, not a great photo.)

Would anyone else give everything to just have time with special dog that crossed rainbow bridge again .
poppy196 · 04/11/2018 19:48

@missmouse101 pippin is beautiful, well done you on giving her 7 happy years 🌸

Been 6 weeks since we lost our big ol furball suddenly.
Just a howl at 5 am and he was gone. Gone in the 12 or so steps it took me to get from my bed to where he was sleeping in front of my sons room.He was 8 and no illness or sickness at all.

Little things get me like cleaning out the rim of the washing machine after a wash to gather up the fur and finding none or coming home to just the Staffy.

Would anyone else give everything to just have time with special dog that crossed rainbow bridge again .
poppy196 · 04/11/2018 19:56

@PersonalClown That's shocking, such a young age to lose them .
Ours is 5 and hoping for years with him .
Hope that your staffy is coping ok on his own , we are on our 3rd staffy and despite being a pain in the arse think they will be the only dog for me .

poppy196 · 04/11/2018 19:57

@PersonalClown bloody auto correct 8 not 5 🙄
