Name changed so not to be outed on previous threads if people see puppy pics.
We got our gorgeous imo rescue pup, rescue say pointer x unknown hound.
Dd and DF say Harrier, I say Jura, DP says Grand Anglo Français Tricolore.
Any other guesses?
Has anyone done a dog DNA test, are they any good?

Gorgeous boy ! I would guess at Doberman x hound (maybe beagle depending on height )

NewPooch · 21/10/2018 18:25

@adaline and @prettygreywalls yes a few people on walks have said beagle.
@Lucked and @ThrowThoseCurtainsWide thanks, we think she's gorgeous too.
Here's another picture. She's about the same size, if not a bit taller than the larger size classifications of beagle irc.
She's 9 months old

I can understand now why some people have said pointer from how she's standing but to me it more confirms the Doberman stance
Quite chunky legs with low set knees and hocks are a bit beagle

she's a real an absolute beauty

almondsareforevermore · 21/10/2018 18:33

Agree about results being too exotic. A rescue dog which is not obviously one breed will be a mix of mongrels for generations past. Unusual pedigree dogs are not allowed to breed indiscriminately so if a Romanian Street dog looks like an Afghan it’s coincidence.

adaline · 21/10/2018 19:20

Maybe foxhound if she's tall, although whatever she's crossed with could override the beagle height limits!

But she's absolutely beautiful :)

NewPooch · 21/10/2018 19:53

@almondsareforervermore yes very true, I'd love to know more though , although it seems the reported accuracy and reviews would suggest treating results with some scepticism.

Well the results are in...
We have a pointer x siberian husky, with a dash of beagle. Parents were (a)Pointer x Siberian Husky + hound group and (b) Beagle x German Short Pointer + sporting breed.
Puppy classes should be fun then. ShockGrin

Oh wow! Yes, that'll make life interesting.

We did Wisdom and ours was 37% whippet, 37% saluki and the rest greyhound. She is Very Fast and has incredibly selective hearing Grin

Vallahalagonebutnotforgotten · 22/11/2018 19:38

During my degree I did test on both wisdom and black dog dna. We sent both samples from the same litter of collies that we knew the ancestry back for 40 years.

All the DNA was different with the puppies from the same litter with some "interesting" findings.

One collie had largest %bloodhound and yorkshire terrier
One collie pup had largest % of Australian Cattle dog and poodle

Hmm not sure I have much faith in them

OP your dog is truly scrummy

Howtodeal · 22/11/2018 19:43

We were told by the rescue What they thought the breed mix was (they had no background) and they were fairly spot on when we did Wisdom Panel. Ddog was the majority mix of the 2 breeds they'd advised, plus 20% 2 other breeds. It made it much cheaper to insure her as one of her main breeds is notorious for health problems.

He's an absolute beaut OP, but so unusual looking I can't hazard a guess other than he looks a bit beagle-y to me. Totally gorgeous. Congratulations!!

Howtodeal · 22/11/2018 19:44

Sorry, she!!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/11/2018 19:55

Before I saw your results I thought she looked like a Trail Hound. Strangely we’ve had a few Trail hound/Pointer x in rescue round here recently. I’m looking for another dog at the moment, cos the boyo needs a friend Grin, so I’m seeing a lot of rescues!

NewPooch · 22/11/2018 20:46

@JesusInTheCabbageVan we did wisdom too. I feel your pain with selective hearing and speed, although I'm guessing yours would make mine look like she was standing still Grin.
@Vallahalagonebutnotforgotten that's incredibly interesting , we did it out of curiosity as we knew nothing other than Pointer x.
@Howtodeal I think she's gorgeous too, but I'm biased and a total sucker for black and tan dogsSmile.
@Judashascomeintosomemoney I'm off to look up Trail Hounds Grin.

DeadCertain · 24/11/2018 08:33

She is a really beautiful dog; I thought there was something vaguely RR in there.

BiteyShark · 24/11/2018 08:38

Awww lovely dog OP.

The thing is even with a mix of DNAs it won't always come out as their behaviour. Think about siblings. Same mum and dad but behaviours and traits will often be completely different even with the same environment. That's what makes genetics so excitingly unpredictable Grin

NewPooch · 24/11/2018 15:03

@DeadCertain thank you Smile.
@BiteyShark, yes genetics is fascinating, I would definitely study it if I had my time again.
Tbh not knowing much about her means we've just had to be guided by what we observe.
I'm hoping that she doesn't change dramatically as she settles in to being a family dog, she's so lovely puppy adolescence induced deafness aside Hmm

ILoveTreesInAutumn · 24/11/2018 15:22

She’s discombobulating 😂

...and looks very different standing up.

What have you called her?

NewPooch · 24/11/2018 17:59

@ILoveTreesInAutumn, she does doesn't she Grin. I took a picture the other day and she looked like a tall dachshund Confused.
She's called Phoebe.

OP posts:
Sexnotgender · 24/11/2018 19:16

Ah she's very beautiful! I knew there was beagle in there.

ILoveTreesInAutumn · 25/11/2018 08:35

Phoebe. That’s funny. One of the DC’s friends is a Phoebe and she has quite a small head and shoulders and looks quite small sitting down, but standing up she’s a strapping thing head & shoulders taller than the rest and quite broad with it.

Ngaio2 · 25/11/2018 16:26

Our Romanian Kokoni-like Rescue was tested and came out as chihuahua x Samoyed. Both parents purebred. I just do not believe it. For one thing, ears are folded and neither of those breeds has folded ears, plus how likely is it that a Romanian Street Dog is the result of such a mating? Thirdly, there are a large number of Romanian Rescue dogs which are very similar or near identical to ours.
Trust believed he was part terrier but us no typical terrier behaviours or looks. If he was British born I’d say from looks he was part corgi, part retriever and something else

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 25/11/2018 16:49

We got ours from Dogs Trust and told she was Husky cross. Did a DNA after thinking she didn't look much like a husky, it came back that she's 50% Akita, 37.5% Rottweiler and only 12.5% Husky! I knew she had an Akita look about her. Bloody Dogs Trust

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/11/2018 19:04

NewPooch mine is called Phoebe too! Maybe it's the same as with DC names, you think you've got something different and then find out there are five others in the, same class Grin

NewPooch · 25/11/2018 20:37

@ILoveTreesInAutumn oh my, that's tickled me Grin Grin.
@Ngaio2 I bet he's gorgeous.
@TheFuckfaceWhisperer blimey that's a hench huskyShock definitely got the Akita vibe.
@JesusInTheCabbageVan, how funny Smile, she's Phoebe but eldest dc calls her Doggo McDogface, he was out voted when we named her but still persists.
Annoyingly I've started asking where Doggo is when I'm checking their bedroom doors are shut Hmm
