Stinky dog, stinky house

I've got a gorgeous 7 month old Labrador/Akita ....... but he absolutely stinks!
It's not a new thing so I don't think there's any underlying heath problems, he just stinks of, well, dog!
my house, the carpets especially, pong!
Can anyone suggest anything that I can try that will make him less stinky?

It could be his food, or his anal glands might need emptying?
I have found tinned food made my dogs more "doggy" smelling.

Yes, what are you feeding him on. That's what I'd be looking at first.

Labs do smell intensely doggy, unfortunately. I have a fairly acute sense of smell and decided against one for this reason. Look at his food, give regular baths, use entirely washable beds, keep him off furniture (a bed in each room to assist in this). Check ears, teeth and lip folds as sources of stink. Teeth unlikely for this age. Anal glands and dirty bums also possible.

He has a good dry diet, not supermarket bought. I get it from a local pet shop, it's a grain free food as he has a sensitive stomach.
I'm intrigued to find out how he would empty his anal glands I've not heard of that before.

Your vet can empty his anal glands or you can give it a go yourself. I get the vet to do it so I'm not going to offer any tips on that one!

We got miele cat and dog vacuum cleaner which has a filter that takes away pet smell. We wash his bed regularly and try to give the house a good air out with the windows open for an hour or so a day.

Wilko do a dry shampoo tea tree spray, spray, damp cloth, rub. My rotty isn't pleasant smelling but far too big to put in the bath! Gets a wash down each summer outside!

Raw food
I've never met a dog fed on raw food that smells doggy, and I've never met one fed on kibble that doesn't...
And the occasional bath but dot use any sort of scented shampoo or shower gel because a lot of dogs will go straight out and roll in something disgusting to mask the smell of the shampoo

Our 2 year old lab has just stopped smelling bad, but the cure might not be especially practical... She loves swimming and we just moved from inland to the coast. The sea water must be a lot cleaner than the rivers she used to dip in. I wouldn't have thought it would make suchna differece but she's a new dog now! So fresh. I wonder if you could do a salt water bath if you don't have a handy coast line near by, it might work?

What can really hold its smell is a fabric basket. Try a plastic tub basket (your pet shop should sell them) and then add vet bed for comfort. Every few days I wash the vet bed and wipe out the plastic tub. Also any furniture they sleep on (we've got old sofas they're allowed on) there's a company called Croft's and they have a nice lightweight sofa protector ... again if it gets stinky you can chuck it in the wash and it dries very quickly. Croft's also do nice patterned vet bed if you want to jazz up the plastic tub. Wet dogs can very quickly make a house with any fabric smell!
