Keeping Dog Cosy in Caravan

Tips please.

She sleeps in her crate with her cosy fleece bed, and a fleece blanket over the top of the crate.

In the winter the heating is only on in the day.

Any tips for keeping her extra cosy at night?

Do you sleep in the van with the dog ?

If so, and you are warm enough then so is she. Put a coat on her to keep heat in ?

GlitterEverywhere · 23/09/2018 08:56

Yes we do, but in a different room and have a thick cosy duvet!

Should I up the fleece blanket to a duvet?

Does she seems cold? Most kitchens get cold at night but dogs seem to survive. You can't really apply human standards of keeping warm to a dog.

GlitterEverywhere · 23/09/2018 09:02

No she doesn't, I just feel bad!

You can buy fleece jumpers/coats that they wear. I have a sight hound so she has a few of them for winter.

Mine sleep in a crate when we are camping. They have a thick memory foam bed, then fleeces, and fleeces draped over the crate. They then wear fleece pyjamas - they are sighthounds so need the warmth. If it was colder they would have a thicker fleece coat over the top of the long legged pyjamas

She's a cocker spaniel so fairly well padded. Any recommendations of where to get a fleecy coat for her?

Equafleece costs are excellent.

Some dog breeds such as terriers (I know nothing about spaniels so not sure if they would) will burrow under a duvet to sleep - do you think your DDog might do that?

Wolfiefan · 23/09/2018 10:59

Let dog under your duvet? Grin

GlitterEverywhere · 23/09/2018 12:11

I’d love to Wolfe but DH not so much lol. She’d also wants loves ALL the time so no one would get any sleep!!

Just bought this in single for my old boy, he sleeps in same room as us. Perhaps a hot water bottle to warm ved or dog pjs.

Wolfiefan · 23/09/2018 12:17

Can’t DH be crated? Wink

GlitterEverywhere · 23/09/2018 12:23

Grin wolfie I like your style

Ha. My girl has me well trained. Grin
Though she would get too hot in bed. But sometimes lets me curl up with her on hers.

GlitterEverywhere · 23/09/2018 12:25

Thanks Fstar. I might get me one of them too!

Dd1 is desperate to get her pink doggie jamas Smile

Lol Wolfie, spaniel sized bed not so good for that, although doesn’t stop DDs.

Daft Spaniel is a rescue of sorts and would be in physical contact with me at all times if she could. It’s good for the ego Grin

Unless she seems cold I would think she should be okay with what you've provided already; sounds very cozy and comfy. Aren't spaniels outdoorsy sort of dogs anyway.

My dog would be too hot in a fleecy bed, but she likes to stretch out in the garden on cool evenings so probably not an average dog when it comes to warmth requirements.

We put a thin fleece on our dogs in cold weather at home (our house is old and freezing) and sometimes in the caravan. Our dogs hated their equifleeces being put on (hated having their forelegs put in the arm holes) so we gave them to charity and just bought cheaper regular fleeces.
