Pros and cons of dog in your bedroom at night

My 2 year old toy poodle has become a nightmare through the night. He sleeps in his crate in the kitchen but it’s gone pear shaped recently. It did happen before but he settled back when he was younger.
I really am not keen in him being upstairs
I really struggle sleeping and my DH would rather be stayed downstairs. Doggie loves to snuggle and I know he would adore being in the bed. If we did put a dog bed in the bedroom he wouldn’t use it but would be straight on the bed.
Just want him to not bark keeping the house hold awake in the early hours.
Have any of your doggies migrated upstairs despite your best intentions and how has it worked for you?

When we got our boy he was a crate trained pup, and outside. We decided to have him inside, but in a soft sided crate. The crate lasted less than 3 days before he figured out how to unzip it and get out. It was all down hill from there.

He is is now 3. Sleeps on his bed in the corner of our room for half the night, the other half he chooses to go downstairs to the lounge (or on one of the kids beds if they let him). He'd sleep on our bed if he could. DH loves having him on the bed, I don't. He's huge and we end up perched on the very edge of the bed with him in the middle, and he smells, and snores, and I'd rather cuddle DH than the dog.

But, about 5.30am he knows we wake up, so he will come up and get on the bed and wriggle and wriggle until he's wedged between us with his head on the pillow. Then he heaves a great sigh of contentment and goes to sleep until we get up at 6. Also, when DH is away, he sleeps on the end of the bed, which I don't mind because he's not in my way, and it's security.
