Toilet training getting nowhere.

I know it's early days and I've only had my puppy 5 days but she will not toilet outside.

She was paper trained at breeders so obviously has the association that she pees inside on 'something.
And she's decided that something is her bed. Or a knocked off cushion etc

I can stand outside with her for 45 mins with nothing happening apart from her biting my feet and running in circles. I say nothing but 'wee wee' but she doesn't go.

Then I figure she doesn't need it. So we go inside.

And she pees on the floor/on her bed.

She had done some outside and we make a huge fuss after.

And when she does it inside we completely ignore her

Any tips on getting her to wee outside?

I even tried putting paper down on the grass but she just picked it up and ran off with it Grin

Not all of them do - ours is a beagle so he'll do anything for food though!

We used a training clicker with ours. I agree with other posters about every 30 mins. We let our pup first sniff the treat in my fist then.....
We Just paced slowly around the garden repeating the cue "Hurry Up" and avoiding eye contact etc ....so as to make it clear, this isn't play time. We noticed our pup favoured moss and higher grass for toileting. She also likes a shrub to hide in for poops.
As soon as the deed is done, we click once and give a bit of treat, and lots of well dones. She's now 6 months, and when we say "Hurry Up" she'll wee on cue.....v handy!!!

A bit of chopped hot dog or cooked chicken is a very motivational training reward.

Some children potty train themselves some take months to potty train.
Some puppies get toilet training overnight some take longer.
There is one thing in common between bringing up children and training puppies consistency choose your path and stick to it.

I take her outside twice a night to pee outside - does she pee outside when you do this in the night? If so, is it in the same place each time, and does it happen quickly? You need to try to use the same place outside in the daytime as the place she pees in at night, so the smell is there as a prompt for her.

How restricted is she in your house? Is she limited to one room only (apart from at night). Most trainers recommend restricting the dog to a single room during the day, and only having freedom in that room when you are there to supervise. When you are supervising her you could tie a lead to you so that you can see her cues that let you know when is about to pee and then you can quickly take her outside. If you can't supervise her then crating her should help. You said earlier in the thread that she goes in her crate, but then said that she doesn't really use it. Perhaps use it a bit more in the day if you can't be physically standing over her to watch for toileting cues.
