Does your dog sleep on your bed with you?

So I got a puppy at the weekend.
My plan was to have her sleep in my room in her open crate whilst toilet training then when older she could sleep on my bed but it's not working out that way.

Did anyone let their dog sleep in their bed from day 1? From puppyhood?

How did it work out?

Nope, dogs are floor and their own (deluxe, memory foam, enormous) beds only in this house. Even a pretty clean dog brings smells, dust and grit and hair to wherever they sleep. Plus fleas and ticks if you're not lucky. Also it's not fair if you're not consistent; a dog doesn't understand
"Hey, my paws are too muddy to go to my bed". During a recent tummy upset I was extremely glad to have this system!

She doesn't start the night on my bed HmmGrin, you can probably guess where she ends the night!

Once ours was reliably house trained he started sleeping upstairs , he comes to bed with me and dh at about 11 ish and then I carry him through to ds room between midnight and 1 where he shares a double bed with ds ( adult and only here pt) . He has a fleece blanket and a donut pillow that he sleeps in on the bed so that he doesn’t encroach onto ds side .

Yes occasionally. He has his own bed in my room which he will start on, but then in the morning he will sometimes come onto my bed.
When he was younger he use to sneak up there when I was asleep, but now he stands there and makes weird 'huffing' noises until I invite him up.

Dog hates the sofa and all beds as he overheats. Would love cuddles in bed.

My German shepherd shares my bed with me. When I first got her I slept downstairs with her until she was toilet trained which took less than a week.

I then built up her confidence by leaving her in the kitchen on a night longer and longer each night until she slept through the whole night. All of this happened without her crying/panicking or freaking out. I think it worked so well because we did it gradually. I could never bring home a puppy away from it’s mother and pack and just leave it to cry alone. How horrible.

Once she was confident being left I started bringing her upstairs and that’s where she stays each night unless DP sleeps over, then she has to stay downstairs in the kitchen otherwise she insists on sleeping in the middle of us on the bed and there’s just NO room Grin but she’s fine on her own when she has to be.

She’s really good and just sleeps. Occasionally if she’s changing position she will lick my ear as if to have a little check up on me but other then that she’s fine.

Dog has very comfy bed in the kitchen at night. I think DH and I would be too restless for her tbh with loo trips and hot flushes😬
Real reason though is when dog gets elderly, maybe a bit more smelly, restless, bit incontinent, grumpy even and is suddenly not invited to share the bed I don’t think that is fair. So we start as we mean to go on and dog is invited on the bed for a cuddle in the mornings and up onto the sofa in the evening when we are watching tv although most of the time she prefers to lie on the floor where she is cooler.

Ours has slept in/on the bed since we brought him home aged 12 weeks. When it's cold he's under the covers, otherwise he's on top or on the floor. He's fine - doesn't keep us awake and it meant he never messed inside overnight as he woke us every time he needed the toilet.

OMG no, my bed is a dog hair free zone, plus he sounds like a barn door rattling in a hurricane when he snores, his farts are worse the the DH, he is 81kg and over 6ft when stretched out :)

One of my dogs sleeps in my bed and did from about 12 weeks when we for fed up of trying to get him to settle in his crate. Second dog was allowed on the bed from day 1, had a couple of puddle on the duvet incidents but nothing terrible. He rarely sleeps on the bed now by his own choice, and has a bed next to mine. This might change when the weather cools down though. I love having them in the bed, my chihuahua curls up against the small of my back and is like a little hot water bottle.

Yes, from second night. He spent the first in a box beside my bed.
He’s fallen off the bed a few times, wee’d on it just once, sleeps soundly all night and only needed taking out at night for ten days.
A great many dogs do sleep with their owners. Up to you.

No way they smell! Ours is also roasting hot and likes to be physically touching someone!

She's allowed in for morning cuddles but no way all the cats and dog are shut away from the bedrooms at night.
