Dog panting this morning, think his stomachs a bit hard...

As titles says, the last time he panted like this he was in pain with limber tail syndrome. He's also trying to sit on my lap, rather than just rubbing his head on my knee haha. I've checked him all over and he's not yelped or whimpered, but his tummy feels a bit hard. Equally, I don't press on his tummy that often, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to feel like that!

He's a black lab so the worry is always he's eaten something that's got stuck, but I haven't noticed anything chewed / missing and he's not done that in a few years (bar some long grass / straw that needed me to 'help it out' Envy)

Any ideas? Otherwise I'll keep an eye on him and hope it's just trapped wind...

I’d get it checked. Could possibly be bloat? I’m sure he’s fine but just to be on the safe side...

WhatsYourFuckingProblem · 12/08/2018 11:07

Has he been to the toilet this morning?

Hamandcheesebaguette · 12/08/2018 11:08

My dog had the same thing once, except he was telling when touching his tummy and becoming aggressive.

Cue a dash to the emergency vet at a cost of £275 who squeezed his tummy, he farted and then was right as rain.

If it happened again I woukd still take him up to be sure though.

Chelonia · 12/08/2018 11:13

Could be bloat (Gastric Dilatation - Volvulus) which labs are VERY prone to and is a life threatening emergency. Please call your vet and arrange to have him seen asap

Topseyt · 12/08/2018 11:16

I'd take him to the vet to be on the safe side. Labs do have a known propensity for eating anything and everything, so I would still worry that he might have eaten something dangerous.

They can also be prone to bloat (gastric torsion) where the stomach can twist if they take in a lot of air/eat too fast.

Get him checked out today. Hope he turns out to be OK, but better safe than sorry.

DerelictWreck · 12/08/2018 11:23

Sounds like bloat to me - especially if he is restless and pacing

3boys3dogshelp · 12/08/2018 11:33

You need to take him to your vet straight away this morning OP.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 12/08/2018 11:44

Phone your emergency vet right now.

BiteyShark · 12/08/2018 11:49

Vets.

Hope he's ok.

BrokenWing · 12/08/2018 11:50

The panting is showing he is in pain, straight to the vet. Good luck.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 12/08/2018 16:04

Thinking of you OP. Hope all is ok?

Sorry for the delay, I read the first few messages and called the vet and haven't stopped all day. Second I got off the phone the git stopped panting, but in we went anyway. Nothing serious, just some constipation and trapped wind. As the vet was feeling his belly he let off a giant fart, and started doing his toilet dance by the door, 5 minutes later and he was feeling much better 😂

Vet is gorgeous, and very lovely, so didn't mind at all. Pups had a benign tumour last month on his ear so I was panicking it was actually malignant and had spread, but as soon as he'd been to the loo he was back to normal.

Thank you for the assurance I wasn't being dramatic though!

Btw that was my dog doing the fart and the toilet dance, NOT THE VET 😂😂
