How can we help him sleep?

I don’t think I can cope with this much longer

Doggo has cushings disease. Most of his symptoms are under control with Vetoryl but he just can’t seem to sleep at night

DH and I are taking it in turns to sleep on the sofa downstairs with him as he’s up woofing (he does this quiet whisper sort of woof) and humping stuff most of the night and I’m absolutely knackered

He sleeps from about midnight until 2am, then he’s up until about 6am when he’ll finally go back to sleep until about 8

He’s at work with me all day and doesn’t sleep much, gets lots of walks and we walk him again before bed. We’ve tried one of those calmer plug in things but it doesn’t seemed to have helped. I’ve rung the vet to ask if you can get dog sleeping pills but our vet is on holiday until the end of next week and they’d rather we stick with the same vet

I’m so tired I could cry.

Sorry I know nothing about Cushing disease in dogs but have you spoken to your vets about the not sleeping. Wonder if any of the drugs have that as a side effect and in which case maybe they could prescribe something to help?

Thanks!

From what I understand the insomnia is a symptom of the cushings.

I was hoping there was such a thing a dog sleeping pills, but unfortunately our vet is away until the end of next week and the our practice would prefer we stick with the same vet.

Yep insomnia is symptom of Cushings. I am not a vet so do feel free to ignore.

I would ask if they could tweak the dosage of Vetoryl and there is also other medication they can try - which I believe is off licence but is used for Cushings (although has other side effects!)

I would go back to your practice asap even if your vet is away - you can't have no sleep for another week you will be exhausted as will your dog. You poor thing Sad.

Thanks!

I’ve just called the vet again and begged.

They’ve booked him in for some stim tests the day the vet returns and given us some tramadol to try for a few days to see if it helps

Fingers crossed we might actually get some sleep tonight!
