Peeing with excitement

Hi all,

We have a new puppy who has been with us now 6 weeks. She is a black Labrador border collie cross (adorable). She is now almost toilet trained at night, and has the odd accident which is understandable as she can't be expected to hold overnight all the time.

However, on seeing us in the morning or even when we come downstairs after being up for 10mins, she will wet herself with excitement. She will even do this if we are out a walk and she sees other people/dogs.

Are there any tips on dealing with this, or is it something she will naturally gain control of? She is now 14 weeks.

Pic added for cuteness!

Mine did excitement pees since he was a puppy.

Whilst he grew out of that for people he knows he still does them when he's greeting someone new and he's almost 2 years old now Sad

I just know to introduce new people when we are on hard floors so we can mop up the pee easily.

Yep same as Bitey, almost two years old still does it occasionally when he is super excited but it will get better! He doesn't do it at all as much as when he was younger

Ours does this sometimes, he's six months. No real answer but they do grow out of it!

I made sure to do nothing to exciting when I came down and turned away from my cocker when it happened. It stopped very soon after that.

The one that stayed was the excited wee when I did his food. Eventually I found that if he could be right next to me when I prepped the food he consentrated on sitting nicely to be given it, rather than doing an excited wee.

Thanks everyone, I usually go downstairs in the morning and don't fuss over her until I let her outside. Even seeing us though she wees. Luckily the kitchen is tiled and easily cleaned up!

It’s a normal juvenile behaviour which dogs will grow out of if alllowed to mature emotionally. If neutered whilst still exhibiting this behaviour they may retain it long term

Billypup still doing it almost same breed border retriever though not lab. At that age I put a pad down outside crate and she used that. Now we just open door and say hello in the garden it’s getting better.
