Keeping dog off sofa. Any genius ideas?

Due to the layout of the house, we don't have a feasible way of keeping the dog away from the sofas, and am loathe to crate him as he never has been.

We have rehomed him and he was previously allowed on the sofas in his old home.

I've tried piling things on them, he knocks them off.

I've tried kitchen foil, it doesn't seem to bother him.

I've piled the cushions really high - turns out it's just extra cosy.

He sheds terribly and I'm having to vacuum the sofa before anyone can sit down after he's been up.

Any genius tips would be great!

Rosa - I don’t think there are enough baby wipes in the supermarket to get my dog clean! Do you follow Max and Paddy in the Lake District on Facebook? They’re tops!

Goodness I didn't even know a thing a like " prickle strips " existed in civilised society Sad

My goodness... just for context...my hens weighing a few pounds can walk over them without injury. I would never ever hurt or injure any animal.

They are designed to be uncomfortable. They don't "injure" anything

A bit like putting a chair on the sofa makes it uncomfortable. and blocks the dog from getting on it. ( which is what I used to do)

They certainly aren't like those burglar things that are seriously sharp.

They are less deadly than my DD's lego-strewn bedroom floor, trust me, I have accidentally trodden on both!

I still think using deliberately uncomfortable items to deter your dog is wrong. Shut him/her out of the room if you can't bear to have them on your sofa!
