Anyone fancy a raw feeders chat thread?

I have a miniature schnauzer who has been raw fed since weaning thanks to his fantastic breeder. I also have a raw fed cat. We are picking up our new puppy in 2 weeks who is kibble fed but will be changing her over to raw once she's settled in. I'm a bit nervous about it tbh.

Any other raw feeders out there? Do you DIY or use completes?

I was under the impression that there have been no studies on the ph levels of raw fed and kibble fed dogs only supposition. Have you a link to your information Miss Battenburg.

Ph levels is just a minor part of digestion, and a healthy dog will have no more issues with kibble and/or raw than any change of diet. They will probably get very fat though Smile

A bit of both, I think vallahala.

Some of the ph stuff I came across in reading studies for related but not directly the same things (e.g. faecal microbes in raw fed dogs). Carb impact on acid ph has been seen in other animals, inc humans.

But you're right there is no study I know of where dogs specifically have been investigated for this directly.

Typically, it's between academic years so my journal access is suspended - meaning I can't get the correct references...

My dog food freezer is in the garage, they eat outside anyway so just throw it straight out to the garden.

Raw feeder here too. Only made the switch two months ago. Pleased we took the plunge. Still using completes but now a mix of proteins and supplement with boneless (going by his poos) plus sardines and eggs. Sometimes add blueberries. He is currently fed outside but not looking forward to winter and feeding indoors and having to clean the floor as well as the kitchen. We have a spare freezer in the garage with a drawer specifically for him. We are very lucky and have a raw feed warehouse 4 miles down the road so I pop in for his food rather than online delivery.
