We have recently rehomed a French bulldog who's previous owner didn't have time for him.

(He definitely wasn't our first choice of breed - especially in this stifling weather, but he was destined to go to the sons friend who had a few bitches and he would be used for breeding. So here we are).

I am definitely allergic to him, but this isn't too much of a problem and is very manageable with antihistamine. The issue I have is that for the life of me I can't get rid of his hair. How he is shedding so much I have no idea. I would have presumed he would have done his spring shed by now.

He is scratching and is on a no grain diet, and on 2 x antihistamine a day as advised by the vet.

I have bathed him, he's been to the groomers. I've been putting coconut oil on his skin where he's scratching.

My questions are-

Is there anyway to help get the rest of the coat out? I'm brushing and brushing but it just keeps coming.

Is it a normal behaviour for them to scratch in this heat?

Vet said he might take a wee while to settle, but will this include the scratching/shedding.

Any tips on gathering hair from wooden floors? He's white so they are a nightmare.

Trying desperately to keep him off the sofa too, but he seems quite smitten with a cosy seat Hmm

He is here to stay now, and already very loved. We recently lost a greyhound who was 4 times the size of this guy and pretty sure he never shed this much in his life!

Also any other tips on helping him chill out. He does seem quite settled but was obviously an upheaval for him. He was apparently left for long periods of time and has a raw neck where his collar was far too tight. He chews his paws, but again the vet said this could be a comfort thing and would calm down.

If you've made it this far, thank you!

Sorry it's a ramble, am writing in the middle of another hair removing vacuum & mopping session!

French bulldogs are very prone to allergies, that may be why he’s so itchy.

As for the hair I don’t think there’s any way to stop it sorry!
