Hi all
I'm probs worrying over nothing but I'm a little concerned about a scab like area on our golden retriever near her mouth. Can any one give me any advise?
I don't want to go to the vets in case it is just a scab but equally I'm a little worried about Alabama rot...

Thank you in advance

You should probably get it checked out. My Labrador, when he was 4, had a small scab like that on his leg-turned out it was a malignant carcinoma. (It was tiny-literally 1cm across)
Fingers crossed it’s nothing but better safe than sorry.

Has she been in a scrap recently? It could be a puncture wound that has now scabbed over.

If you can't think of any obvious cause, a vet visit would be appropriate.

OP it could be a scab over a hotspot or wet eczema in which case under the scab the infection/condition will be developing. Whatever it is, it's best checked out by a vet. Some vets offer cheap/free nurse's appointments, ours do. So could try having it looked at that way if money is why you are reluctant to have it checked. I know vet fees are high, although proportionate.

One thing that is always worth bearing in mind is that if the scab is covering a problem, that treatment will be more extensive and expensive the longer it's left. Have learnt this the hard way!

Could be cause by lots of things, my dog is always getting scabs and cuts. The ones around the mouth and nose are generally cause but sticks or thorn bushes. If it will put your mind at rest then it’s best to go to the vet.
