Dog with diarrhoea that won't go away!

Anyone had any experience with this? She's had diarrhoea for 3.5 weeks now, very liquid and mucous-y and is up 2-3 times a night to be let out. Has had a couple of accidents at home where she's been left 4 hours or so which she NEVER does normally.

When it first started we put her on chicken and rice but this didn't help. Got a probiotic/binder paste from the vet but this made no difference. Trying the super sensitive prescription food (that's bloody expensive!!) from the vet now and it hasn't made a difference. Now onto a second tube of probiotic paste but still no change.

She's had faecal sampling done, the results came back today and nothing has shown up.

We're all at the end of our tether due to the disrupted sleep and she's lost weight (skinny anyway as she's a whippet cross).

When I called the vets today for the test results they said they'd get the vet who'd dealt with our case to give me a call in the next few days to discuss next steps but we can't wait that long!! It'll be a month on Sunday since this all began.

Some background: she's always had a sensitive stomach and had a bout of IBS a few years ago which made her very poorly but after a few months of trial and error we found some food that agreed with her and she's been fine since.

She's quite happy in herself, running around like an idiot and pestering for food as normal. Her coat is soft and glossy still and her temperature and hydration levels are fine.

Anyone got any suggestions please?

My dog has had many bouts of chronic diarrhoea coupled with vomiting at its worst. Eventually we had tests (endoscopy) which confirmed inflammatory bowel disease which was treated with steroids. He is currently doing well and has actually put on weight going from underweight/skinny to normal for the first time in his life (he will be 2 in a couple of months).

We did have an episode where he was admitted when he was really unwell and had many blood tests, poo samples, scans etc and just at the point where they would have done more invasive tests he got better. It was only because he became ill in a similar manner again that we decided to go straight for an endoscopy because we 'knew' it was more than an irritable bowel issue or general stomach issues.

I would go back and push for more tests in your shoes.

Really those vet prescription diets are rubbish. I hate how they put the word prescription in like it's something special when you can buy it from anywhere Angry
It does sound like it needs more investigating as it's gone on for so long :(
Could you try just feeding scrambled egg as it's much gentler on stomachs.

Cod and plain white rice for ours when her tum's been off, never lasted more than a day

Have you tried her on grain-free food? Lots of dogs (and cats) cannot digest grain and the result is diarrhoea and weight loss. I don't really rate vet-prescribed diets - you can buy better quality food online or from Pets at Home for much less money.

We feed Wainwrights which is grain and additive free. We have a Beagle and two cats and they're all on the same brand due to the cats' intolerances (they tend to get in each others food!) and none of them have ever had any issues on it.

Lily's Kitchen is another good brand to consider, or James Wellbeloved.

Chicken and rice didn't work for us, in fact it made my ddog worse. Cod was better, then we got her some Burns potato and pork. This has been brilliant and she hasn't had an upset stomach for about 4 months. Prior to this ddog had loads of tests and antibiotics but nothing found.

My dog was similar to this and cannot tolerate canned food or maize at all. Fortunately she seems ok on Aldi’s dog food and it doesn’t upset her x
