Travel sickness remedies for 3 month old puppy

We’re going to be driving for about 3.5 hours at the weekend with our 4 year old dog who’s very good in the car and our 3 month old puppy who’s getting used to shorter journeys but has been sick when she’s been in the car for longer than half an hour or so. Can you give children’s travel sickness medication to puppies? And if so, how much?

I am not a vet so do check this information!

Cerenia is excellent for travel sick dogs but I think they have to be 4 months to have it. Worth a check with your vet. I know people do give sturgeon no idea on dosage or if it is to be advised.

Some puppies prefer to travel in covered crates.(I would hate this!) but for many dogs if they can not see it helps to stop the sickness maybe worth a try.

Have a good weekend

Please stay away from human medicine! It's not designed for dogs!!
The best thing for your puppy would be a crate covered on 3 sides, preferably not covering the back.
Dogs get travel sickness from all the excitement (of the chase) and frantic moving around... That's what you need to stop- hence the crate. It will teach your puppy to lie down in the car.
Sedation is just that, it won't cure anything.

Valhalla has suggested Cerenia which is not a sedative, but an anti-emetic. I am pretty certain that they do have to be four months old to have it. However, once they are old enough it is really, really effective as it blocks the nausea. Most dogs only need a couple of doses before they are cured of travel sickness.

Thanks - I’ll call the vet today and ask. She’s actually better out of the crate as she panics if she can’t see out .. she’s been better over the last few days as we’ve been doing lots of desensitisation stuff with her (but will still travel with lots of towels and wipes...)
