Batshit breed specific Facebook groups

I’ve two totally different breeds and the Facebook groups for both are infuriating. The flat faced one is people comparing their dogs snoring/itching and how cute and funny it is Hmm, the spaniel one has a lot of good stuff on but a lot of ‘can my spaniel live in the shed while we’re at work cos he wrecks the house’ type posts. Today a woman has posted about being judged for getting a puppy and leaving it 6 hours a day and only being able to commit to an hour of exercise, cue lots of ‘aw hun you’re doing great’. Anyone that is critical is jumped on and usually kicked out, Have unfollowed both in a rage. Anyone else or is it just my breeds?!

I'm in a local sausage dog one and it's really very sane! Lots of people who clearly adore their dogs, take them everywhere (occasional discussions of the best handbags for smuggling sausage dogs into places where they're not meant to be!) and generally pamper them (memorably, someone who had a ramp built in brick up to his patio for the dog) but I haven't seen people having a go at other people. It may be because the group organises well attended breed-specific walks so they know they might actually run into the person offline.

Another group I'm in that's city specific but not breed specific is a bit more batshit though - one video of the inside of a brachycephalic dog's airways and it's all #notallpugs and accusations of breed bashing (whatever that is) Hmm

I am in about five groups specifically for the same breed, some predominantly uk based some more worldwide. I find them funny and supportive mainly. Occasionally a bit fanatical (when people post about dogs with unusual —not breed recognised— coat colouring).
I have a rare breed so it’s nice to see other examples from all over the world and have some reassurance that my dog isn’t that strange after all.
One group is dominated by a guy who posts a lot of “Sunday morning and Muffin is by the gatepost” type photos 😂 and there is a woman in another group who posts a lot about training her puppy and how much she loves her. It’s all harmless and rather quaint.

I like the idea of happening upon a sausage dog in an unlikely location avocados!
I agree some fb dog groups can get a bit bonkers... and I dip in and out. I've found a great one about former street dogs which is really supportive and pragmatic. I think you have to 'shop around' to find your fave Grin
I guess it's really hard for admins to get a balance

I'm on one that is actually quite nice! We had a meet up at the weekend, something I never thought I'd do!!! But I am crazy about my puppy Blush

tabulahrasa · 26/06/2018 01:36

I never joined any because I found breed specific forums and they were all full of dominance stuff... and Americans advocating prong collars...

Cobrider · 26/06/2018 01:41

I am on the street dog one TropicPlunder, it’s good isn’t it? I am a sucker for rescues and love the patience of the owners and the results with perseverance. I don’t post on my breed specific one as I disagree with a lot of it and I cannot be bothered with arguing.

MaitlandGirl · 26/06/2018 02:52

The most controversial thing that comes up with my breed is whether to trim the fringing of non-show dogs in the summer.

mozzybites · 26/06/2018 03:32

I have a rare dog breed and his Facebook page is pretty sane, there are a lot of dog pictures, lots of skin based questions/advice and dog out and about or sleeping photos.

Squirrel26 · 26/06/2018 08:16

I am in one for dogs rehomed through the charity mine came from, which is sweet with lots of photos of happy dogs and people who knew them from the shelters ‘liking’ them. One of my friends is on a breed-specific one where she occasionally gets into arguments with people which I enjoy vicariously through her. Grin

Looks like I need to keep searching for a normal one then! Would love to see dog smuggling bag recommendations Grin

Allycumpooster Ha ha we must be in the same groups! recognise all of that Smile

BingTheButterflySlayer · 27/06/2018 10:25

I have greyhounds - generally conversations involve photos of them upside down on sofas making themselves look ridiculous, corns, peopleworried as hell about osteosarcoma and the whole yes/no to racing debate.

Allycumpooster · 27/06/2018 10:25

Yoko I think there are a few of us from those groups in the doghouse. I randomly recognise things pc cross forums. One of the FB group members asked me if I was on a certain parenting site the other day Shock. I may have over shared under a different username

Yokohamajojo · 27/06/2018 10:43

I saw that Smile

Allycumpooster · 27/06/2018 10:54

Blush just as well I don’t over share about anything other than my dogs really! Blush

TropicPlunder · 28/06/2018 17:44

cobrider it's brilliant! Really useful advice which is specific and just what we need. Never seen anything unfriendly there. Also some really cool stories and of course lots of lovely dog photos

NoelHeadbands · 28/06/2018 17:48

I’m in one that’s full of very good natured Americans who wear jumpers with pictures of the breed on Grin
