We are due to adopt a whippet x saluki next month eeeeeeekk!!!! Just wondering whether to go for a collar or harness for walking?
Any suggestions?

Obviously will have a thinner dog tag collar on at all times too.

Hurrah! I prefer a full martingale collar ( a 1.5" would be right for your dog) for walking as they don't pull into it like a harness, but if they are nervous, a properly fitting harness is best. The Perfect Fit harness is great as you customise them to really fit well.

What are they walked on at the moment?

Generally walked in a harness as they have a pile that they use on all the various pointy hounds. Don't think she's v nervous.
Martingales - is it you CMOT with almost a collar for every season!? Grin

Congratulations! We have a whippet x saluki x greyhound Grin How old, and what's her name? We just use a Martingale and it works fine. Out of interest, why a thinner collar as well? Never heard of that, am I missing something?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/06/2018 19:27

Oh OK, just looked up Martingale collars and that's not what we have! Ours is a fur lined wide collar with a normal buckle, not sure what it's called.

I think martingales can get stuck on things so not necessarily on while unattended so to speak, then a thinner "house" collar. She's about 18mths/2yrs.

Well, I don't have summer collars as such... just spring (daffodils and snowdrops), halloween, christmas and a good number of collars that aren't seasonal! Actually, I realise we just got a sunflower collar, so that is summer . And ddog1 does have a range of themed fleece coats as well.
What Jesusinthecabbagevan describes is a classic sighthound collar. I prefer the martingales as they aren't tight normally (so don't rub) but can't slip over their heads. The separate tag collar is as you shouldn't leave martingales on overnight or when dogs are crated as the large D ring could catch on something.

If you want to look at collars, Meggie Moo is my fave, followed by Slouching Hound - the ribbon based collars wear better than cotton

Oh wow...the choice on meggiemoo is huge! How I do I choose....!? Will have a browse later. She's a fawn (?!) colour with darker ears/muzzle. I can see that a sighthound can be a costly addition! Wink

One of my former foster girls is much indulged in the collar department and is the same sort of colouring, and looks stunning in her pink and teal collars. I'm a bit rubbish at choosing, and Jo (who runs MM) is fabulous and if you tell her a few things you like she will tell you what would suit your hound best. And match a lead and tag collar to it Grin

Mine wrecked her lovely MeggieMoo collar really quickly so is back with a normal sighthound collar and harness with the lead attached to both for walks these days.
