Perfect Fit harnesses

Hi! We just got a pf harness for our puppy. He's 7 months old and ~30 kgs. He normally walks like a dream on a slack lead. We just had our first walk with it, and he was a bloody nightmare. He pulled and pulled. I was exhausted.

Has anyone else found this? Would it improve if I used a second or double ended lead?

I think some dogs like to pull in a harness as they can put all their weight behind it. If yours walked great before could you not just go back to what you were using before?

Mine pulls much more in a PF harness so I...

  • use a collar and lead when we are just on a normal walk because he hardly pulls at all then
  • use a harness and single lead on social walks because a crowd make him very pully and I don't want him hurting his neck so just accept it'll be that kind of walk
  • use a harness with a lead attached to the back D ring and his collar (double ended) on busy walks about town when I want the extra control of a lead attached to his neck but want the harness to take the majority of the strain

It seems to work well for us, so far.

Have you got the D ring correctly at the tail end of the back part? I put mine the wrong way round first time.
I stopped using it eventually because I wanted him to use a normal lead.

You need to retrain loose lead walking. A harness makes lead walking a much more pleasurable experience so in their exuberance they may start to pull. There are two D rings you can attach a double ended lead to both to help give you more control but it’s better in the long run to go back to basics and retrain.

Op he's gorgeous!

Thanks all. I can't walk him on a collar/or his old harness because he's too clever and has worked out how to back out of most things. He also hates haltis. He mostly backs out if we're still too long.
