Which way does your dog go into his crate..

And is there a reason?

We use the ‘front entrance’ and puppy has access to whole thing.

Friend has suggested using ‘side entrance’ and blocking a bit off.’ (Big crate, small puppy).

Our puppy is 3 month old lab puppy.. happily goes in crate from 10pm till between 4.30 - 5.00am when wakes for a wee.

Would there be any benefit from changing this? (Eg - to get an extra hour sleep?)

We bought a big crate and lab puppy was good with it from the start. Only had one entrance and we put a blanket over the top to enclose it and block out the light.

No benefit. A smaller crate can help with toilet training because there isn't space to pee then sleep on a dry bit. Your ddog sounds like he's cracked that already so...

Besides, at 3 months old he due still growing at am amazing rate so will need the space again very soon!

Thanks both. I did think it was possibly pointless, but am a doggy-novice, so thought should check!

We got an xxxl crate for our lab puppy, there was a bed in it and big teddies when she was very young and a couple of pads in case of night time accidents. She's now 5 and still sleeps in the crate but on flat memory foam mattresses. She gets in through the front door and we've always had a crate cover on it

We only use ours for the car since he finished his puppy toilet training. Just pick him up and put him in it. Only one door.

drearydeardre · 23/06/2018 09:50

and there was me thinking it was about whether the dog went in nose first or rear end first Blush

pigsDOfly · 23/06/2018 17:02

That's what I thought Deardre. Only clicked on it to find out why it would make a difference.

i actually had a quite a large crate for my very small puppy and she had the full run of it as she cracked toilet training pretty much immediately.

I also covered it on the top back and three sides so it was like a cave. Puppy was very happy and I never really had many disturb nights or even early mornings but she's never been an early riser and does like her sleep.

pigsDOfly · 23/06/2018 17:06

Oh, and she went in nose first through the front.

drearydeardre · 23/06/2018 21:49

pigs glad it is not just me Smile dogs always follow their nose.

bbcessex · 23/06/2018 22:53

How funny - I now have a mental image of puppy reversing into the crate 😂😂😂

Yes, that's what I was imagining bbcessex.

Had this image of a little roly-poly labrador puppy wriggling his little pudgy rear end to and fro in an effort to guide through the door. Grin
