My collie x likes to chew on and partly digest bits of tree/sticks. Is this ok or very bad for him?

It’s not good as sometimes sticks can splinter and cause internal damage, or so my vet said.
Flatdog likes to chew them as well but I take them away now. Swap it for a carrot!

RedHelenB · 19/06/2018 21:58

I think that is normal dog behavior.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/06/2018 21:58

No, it's not good at all.

RedHelenB · 19/06/2018 21:59

But yes the splintered wood will not be great if it's eaten,

Imsodonewithshit · 19/06/2018 21:59

They all do it. But it can be dangerous splinters can pierce the intestine or cause a blockage. I just take them away.

It’s very bad indeed, they can get splinters in any part of their digestive system, or the stick bits can get stuck, meaning a real emergency. Don’t let your dog eat sticks.

It’s natural that they want to chew, so give them chews especially designed for them.

Normal but really not great. I always take sticks off my dogs.

If they swallow it it can cut their insides or cause a blockage which can be lethal if left.
