Puppy nipping

What can I do to stop a puppy nipping ?
It's not my dog but I may be looking after it while the owner is on holidays.
Its teeth are sharp and it tends to nip - probably still teething. Unfortunately the owners children don't reprimand it when it nips.
I love dogs but am a little fearful and I really don't want to be nipped.

Puppies nip. Yell loudly and ignore for 30 seconds. Then go back to normal.

Yelling didn't work for me and made puppy worse. Distracting with toys again only worked a bit. What did work was removing pup from me or removing me from pup for a few minutes so biting meant end of fun.

Also watch out for overtiredness as this can make them more bitey and usually indicates they might need an enforced sleep.

Play and interaction stops when the puppy nips. Important to remove yourself and not the puppy so you may need to set up situations to allow this to happen. eg if you are playing in a puppy pen you can step out of the pen. If you are laying in a large area and puppy bites you it is harder to remove yourself so do manage the environment

Do not yell or you just turn yourself into a human squeaky toy and puppy love squeak toy Smile
