Thinking of switching Dog onto this food as he's steadily loosing weight on his current food and upping his feed its doing anything ( vet has ruled out any problems thst could be causing this ) the feeding looks a bit complicated in terms of mixing it all together so a bit wary of trying it

I haven't tried it, but it does seem to come out well for nutrition, so it's the sort of thing I'd consider for my dog if I was looking to switch www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/dog-food-reviews/0783/pure-chicken-delicious

Is there a reason why you've picked this one over the other options? If your dog is lacking appetite, you could consider a cold pressed food - they're very dense nutritionally, so they don't need much volumatically to get what they need. Markus Muhle and Guru are two examples of cold pressed foods.

Hi there, yes our Labrador has been on Pure for the last year. Delighted with it... she was a fussy eater (odd in a Lab!) and prone to being a bit heavy (31kg) despite long daily walks. We swapped and she loved it straight away and after a year is now 27kg with a glossy coat and her food bowls empty after every meal!
I give my girl 4 scoops in the morning with 5/6 scoops of warm water and again in the evening. The most annoying part is that it takes 10-15 mins to soak before it's ready to eat but our dog is used to the wait now.
It is also quite pricey but I think worth every penny, I would thoroughly recommend. I know they do trial packs and there are often codes to get 10% off from time to time.

He can't have any grains or rice or "meat meal" whatever that is Hmm so no cold pressed food doesn't cut it. We like the fact pure is 100% meat and veg and nothing else dogs don't require. Hes on Aatu at the moment but he's just not that into it he much prefer a wetter food he can lap up i think he finds the chewing and dryness of kibble a bit boring and monotonous

Bit surprised that he can't have "meat meal" as it's essentially just dehydrated meat www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/dog-food-ingredients/0005/meat-meal

Have you considered a raw diet? With your requirements your dog sounds like he could thrive on it.

RantyMare · 18/06/2018 05:54

I havent, but my dog has Wink I'd heard good things about it but, it didn't agree with her (diarrhoea etc). I know a few people who swear by it though.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 18/06/2018 07:25

If I were you, I think I'd get a small packet of Pure and see if it agrees with your dog.

If not, you could try raw as @Fairfax suggests (there are raw completes which are less faffy than DIY options, eg Natural Instinct) or if you prefer cooked and have some freezer space, Butternut Box would fit your spec and is absolutely delicious according to my dog, who also wasn't keen on extruded kibble www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/dog-food-reviews/1727/butternut-box

Meat meal is a bit of a mixed beast. It is bsically a dehydrated meat stew. The quality of it will depend on what types of meat were used for the original stew. Some are awful and made from slaughter house waste products, others are better.

We feed our Bichon on Natures Menu Country Hunter. He has a combination of tinned wet food and freeze dried raw food biscuit. The wet food is meat and veg and nothing else. No grain, no meat meal, etc.. The biscuit component is crunchy and has oats - still no grain and no meat meal. It isn't a cheap option but as you scoop it out of the tin you can see the pumpkin seeds or the green beans and I feel a lot more comfortable feeding him this than cheaper food. The protein is also what it says on the tin. If it says it is duck then it is duck not 75% chicken 5% duck like other dog foods.

Himself is fussy and won't eat kibble or a few other cheaper dog foods we tried that were mainly chicken.

Yes he's been on raw before it was terrible for him he ended up ill from it due to the raw bacteria in the meat. We'll order a sample pack from Pure and one from Butternut and see how he does with those Smile

Dogs saliva and gut are specifically designed to deal with bacteria in raw meat, so if there was sensitivity I doubt that was the cause.

Praisebe · 18/06/2018 15:17

Well extensive testing proved otherwise. He doesn't have the same metabolism as other dog's. Rude know it all.

FairfaxAikman · 18/06/2018 18:51

Wasn't rude, it was a statement. Calling me a know-it-all, THAT'S rude.

Praisebe · 18/06/2018 19:32

Well take your statement elsewhere to someone who cares Biscuit

i just saw your question regarding Pure pet Food . We have a puppy who is 4 mths old, she did not do well on kibble or raw and now is thriving on Pure Pet Food - she loves it and doesn’t gobble it up all at once. The good then also you can order a two week trial.

Floralnomad · 06/09/2022 21:10

Have you tried the Nature Diet pure range , ours is on Nature diet senior lite , loves it , looks really good on it and it’s very economical .

renialacny · 02/03/2025 13:47

I have tried Pure Pet Food for my food sensitive miniature dachshund and am truly disappointed. He has gained weight, and his allergies have returned after the transition diet period. After consultation with my Vet. We have decided to return to his original diet. Please read all of the ingredients that Pure Pet Food add to the dmconsidered diet for your pet. It certainly didn’t agree with my dog. They use sunflower oil hence the weight increase (which has been dramatic). I’m not condemning the food at all. Just read the ingredients carefully and make sure that they suit your pets requirements.
