Pet/house sitter while on holiday

Has anyone done this?
We've not left our dog before. He's going on 3 years old and has always gone along with us on our excursions. But this summer, we're spending 10 days abroad and would rather leave him at home than kennel him. We can't bring him. No dogs allowed. Sad

Any experiences/advice related to live-in pet/house sitters would be most appreciated! Thank you kindly in advance.

We have used house sitters - one is a local dog walker who came recommended by a friend. She was fine, but as she was also doing her normal dog walking and popping home it was more like she did a few walks with my dogs and then slept here rather then house sitting. More recently our babysitter has house sat for us and thats been great. She treats it more like borrowing the dogs for the weekend and is more engaged with all the animals.
We've also used a home boarder, and the dogs love that but as she takes so few dogs its hard to get a place (and doesn't solve the cat and chicken problem).

Are there other pets you need looking after too, or is it just the dog? If it's just the dog, consider home boarding where it's done in the boarder's own home.

Mine's very much a one person dog and only ever bonds with people who are his primary carer - even those he lives with that aren't his primary carer are ignored or mistaken for burglars. However, he has coped fine at dog boarding - I think it helped that we went around for a cup of tea so he could see the place and then left, and then the first time he went it was only for one night. He's actually semi bonded with the dog boarder now!

I used home boarding for my previous dog (who could not share with other dogs so I used an agency to find a boarder who would take them as single dog) and now for my current dog, who boards with up to 5 or 6 other dogs in the house with a really nice man who lives two roads away - I was told about him by the local dogowners I met on walks. She loves him so much that she often takes me for a walk past his house and tried to go in to see him. If she meets him when he is out with several dogs, she rushes up to him for a cuddle. If you can find out locally if there is someone who does this (at least 3 professional dogwalkers do home boarding in my suburb), it would be nicer for your dog because he knows the area.

Mine goes to stay with his Auntie Suzie
She’s a professional dog sitter and he’s part of the family there. The only problem is that she’s so fab she gets booked up very quickly
I wouldn’t dream of using a kennel and I dint really want someone staying here
