I’m so excited! Can’t get one for about 6 weeks but going to visit the rescue and chat to the owner to find a dog to fit in our family.

Argggghhhh, might pee with excitement.

Gorgeous!!

sexnotgender · 09/06/2018 18:21

Lady says he’s not timid once he trusts you, apparently really playful but just shy initially so he’s been overlooked in the shelter.

Aww!He's so lucky you came alongSmile!

Yay! Congratulations OP! We brought home our no-good racer 2 months ago and she's amazing! (Amazingish 🙈) How old is he? Ours hadn't been cat tested or lived outside her racing kennel at all, we met and collected her from there but she's fine with the cat now. We had a 3 year old and a 5mth old when we collected her too so she's adapted to a lot, they do! Keep us updated and there's lots of fabulous advice on here, I started a thread with my specific questions and was very reassured.

sexnotgender · 09/06/2018 19:25

He’s nearly 2, can’t wait to bring him home.

Same as ours. If you're on FB there's a fantastic group called Retired Greyhound Chat and there's lots and lots of info on there I've found very useful. The waiting between meeting them and bringing them home is so exciting and scary in equal measures, good luck!

sexnotgender · 09/06/2018 21:05

Thank you! I shall have a look for the group.

Thankfully our lad seems quite well socialised, he’s been at the shelter since January and the lady seems to ensure they meet multiple dogs and cats if possible.

What a handsome boy.

sexnotgender · 10/06/2018 09:37

Thanks everyone, I'm so excited to give him his well deserved forever home. Pretty much realised I'm going to bankrupt myself looking at all the things this soon to be spoilt doggy is going to need! Meggiemoo should come with a health warning for your bank account!

What are the feelings on changing names? Whilst we don't dislike Sam it's also SIL's dogs name.
We are leaning towards Bert... with a view to perhaps getting him an Ernie later on.

We changed our greyhounds name. He was called picture as his racing name had been Valid Picture. We changed it to Homer (as in Simpson and not the Ulysses as our posh neighbour thought!).

Outed myself now if any family on here waves

sexnotgender · 10/06/2018 09:58

I can see why you changed his name! That'd be like calling a dog table. Homer is a great name.
We are looking at "human" names as that's what I like. I wanted Gerald but my husband laughed Sad

Sam is a gorgeous dog!

How much walking does a greyhound need each day?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/06/2018 10:14

He looks like a Wiley to me Smile

sexnotgender · 10/06/2018 10:16

They don't need a huge amount, 2 20/30 minute walks per day will be fine and will do longer walks on the weekends. They are a pretty low maintenance breed.

He'll also have a massive back garden to charge around in if he wants.

OP posts:
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/06/2018 10:16

Or Vinnie. He is gorgeous anyway, making me broody. Grin

sexnotgender · 10/06/2018 10:39

Thanks Jesus😊 he is a beauty.

I also like Harry, my little cat is Hedwig... there's possibly a theme there.

OP posts:
FlowerPotMum · 10/06/2018 10:48

He's gorgeous. Bert suits him as well. I'd love a greyhound or even a lurcher but we have a very territorial JRT plus a cat and I wouldn't want to upset either of them!
-butter incidents have happened here to-

TheSassyAssassin · 10/06/2018 11:26

Plonking self on thread for more pics and updates. Have always wanted a greyhound and will get one eventually when space and time allows...right now though will live vicariously through the thread Smile

sexnotgender · 10/06/2018 11:51

Shall keep you updated! Going to probably visit him this week so my husband can meet him and going to take him for a walk.
