Moving dog to sleep downstairs

Hi - our little terrier always slept downstairs, no problem at all. We watch TV together in the evening (living room on 2nd floor or townhouse) and then take her downstairs and we go upstairs.

For whatever reason, laziness probably, we've got into the habit of letting her sleep upstairs with us. On her bed on the floor of our bedroom, but while it's sweet now and then, I don't really want to continue this and want to go back to what we did before.

I'm sure she would actually be fine if we just took her downstairs and stayed consistent with this but any tips to help? She's normally very sleepy by this point! Should we take her down and give her a little treat and then say goodnight?

Any tips to make it easier for her? She won't cause a fuss but I'm feeling guilty!

Thanks.

Bit different but our greyhound had slept on our bed for months Blush until we decided enough was enough. We decided to move him on a weekend, expecting a long night, and put his bed by ours. He came up as usual and got on our bed, I told him to go on his bed and gave him a treat. He didn't move all night. We'd put it off for ages thinking it'd be painful! He now sleeps happily on his own bed every night with no prompting.

I know our situation is a bit different but I'd definitely say just try it with a treat, he might surprise you!

Sorry, just seen you said she won't make a fuss anyway! Id still say just treat her, I'm sure we mind more than they do!

Thank you Boynamedsue - I'm really glad that worked for you. We get in these habits don't we and then decide enough is enough!!

I don't think she will make a fuss, she's quite easy going, but I'll treat her like you say - more out of guilt than necessity hopefully. She's very food motivated so a little treat will go a long way!

I quite like her upstairs with us, but she snores and moves about a fair bit and it wakes me up, plus I struggle to sleep in this warm weather so really need to move her back.

Thank you!
